1. It will not really teach you to dance in a club situation. Your sense of rythm will improve, but the moves are not directly transferable.
2. There are few salsa venues, even in major towns, and they can be exhausted quite quickly.
3. The salsa scene is usually quite small, and if you hit on women you dance with, you will get a reputation very quickly (this is not necessarily a bad thing, but just be aware of it).
4. Salsa takes a long time to master. Expect for it to take one year of regular lessons twice weekly, before you can lead confidently.
Of all the dance courses you can do, salsa is probably your best bet though... there is not much else out there, other than ballroom dancing, which attracts a much older crowd.
In all likelyhood, your salsa teacher will also be occasionally teaching merengue and bachata (these are much quicker to pick up), since most salsa clubs also play this time of music, as well as reggaeton (which is not commonly taught).
