Hey, I'm 18 and I live in Scotland, and we have people who wear all sorts of different clothing here, from goths to preps and chavs to skaters, but my preferred style is smart casual, mainly darker colours, with a bit of urban thrown in (i.e. coated black denim jeans, designer t-shirts and polos (like gio goi, henleys, voi etc.), black leather shoes/bag/belt/wallet, sometimes military boots or black leather converse and even a pair of chinos now and again). I tend to feel really self-conscious if I wear anything different.

I keep wanting to try new styles of clothing (i.e. preppy) but few people actually wear clothes like this, and the ones that do stand out (and not in a good way). There are so many different styles, tastes and shops that it's unbelievable. I like the clothes I wear, but I have no idea what this style is called, so can anyone help me out? Also can anyone suggest any new clothes I could wear that fit into this style? I like looking quite well-off and smart, and I tend to avoid clothing which easily falls in and out of fashion (i.e. high-tops), and I would also hate to look chavvy (or neddy as we call it), and also I avoid light blue jeans, white trainers and pullover jumpers (sometimes called "12-year-old fashion").

So basically, what kind of style do I wear, what else could I wear with it and how can I keep up with the latest fashion trends? I often visit local shops (observing the fact that different shops cater for different tastes, age groups and price bands; i.e. Hollister (A&F: preppy, expensive & young) to BHS (old, cheap & general style), and I regularly look on ASOS to see what's new. The way I keep up with fashion now is by visiting shops I like, as everything that is in them is in fashion in one way or another, and simply choosing stuff from their wares that I like. I know that it's the man that makes the clothes and not vice versa, but I go to Uni and I find it quite important to look my best in this style of clothing as it suits me, and someone who wears weird or unfashionable clothing stands out like a sore thumb.

I just want a bit of reassurance that this kind of style is good and I don't look like a twat or anything, as I'm a bit afc in the sense that I worry occasionally about what people think of me.
