Hi guys

This may upset many of you, but will inevitably help more people than it upsets.

Before anyone starts asking for advice on getting bigger, having a 6-pack, or best nutrition available, you need one clear cut thing in mind! That one things is what debunks nearly all the advice people are handing out.

What you need to think is, what sort of physique do I want?!

That is the single most important piece of information you need to set in your mind.

If you want a physique like Brad Pitt, or someone from the film '300' then training like a pro bodybuilder wouldn't be appropriate. Likewise, if you want to look like a bodybuilder, you have to train like one.

The same is true with rest and recovery times. Different styles of intensity require different rest periods and sleep times.

Once again this is true with nutrition. Eating like a bodybuilder will only make you fat if you train for a Brad Pitt physique. Eating like Pitt will just make you sick and tired if you're training like a bodybuilder.

When people start handing out advice about "the best way to train" or "the perfect diet" and stuff like that, please take it all with a pinch of salt. They are probably advising on the information of the physique they want or have.

One last major piece of advice, in health and fitness especially, beware of keyboard jockeys!!! Always be suspicious of what people say. Yes even me.

I hope this helps you all out.

One last thing/reminder if you want a body like an Olympic athlete, you'll have to train like an Olympic athlete. The same applies to every other physique type.

You need to know the type of body you want to work towards before you start asking.

p.s. You can't be as big as a bodybuilder without chemical nutrition (steroids etc) if you believe otherwise, you're setting yourself up for a major disappointment.

The OP forgot to mention genetics and its crucial role in body developement.

And as far as the keyboard jockey I totally agree with you thats why I almost always supply a source, as to were I formulate my opinoins.

Genetic only plays a small part if you have unlimited access to HGH, IGF's and Base Insulin.

There are new drugs coming out that can alter genetic muscular capabilities. But will probably cost around $100,000+ a year.

p.s. If you are looking into HGH to sort out any lagging genetics, you'd expect to spend around $64,000+ a year.

It's talked about in Muscular Development magazine most months.

The drugs are being designed to help astronaughts (pardon the spelling, that doesn't look right to me) not lose muscle while in space. Zero gravity means muscles feel no resistance to objects, so they naturally atrophy. It's a genetic thing that causes unworked muscles to get smaller. So this new stuff being produced is to stop the muscle thinking it needs to get smaller. To do this it increases it's "untrained natural" size. It's genetic base size, in other words.

If I were to try to explain in any greater depth I would confuse myself. Look it up. It's some crazy stuff!

The growth hormone stuff...I naturally assume you're not questioning that. That is seriously well documented.

A quick final note on genetics. If you believe you can not be a bodybuilder because of bad genetics, you can.

Look at Flex Wheeler. Smallest wrists in the world. Tiny clavicles. This guy shouldn't have had a chance!

How about David Darth? He has less than optimal genetics. Same as Paris and Pearl. All brilliant athletes with amazing physiques!

Don't get me wrong, for every 1 that makes it there are 10,000 that don't. But just because you think your genetics suck, doesn't mean they stop you.

You will need a good pharmacist though!

Just one on this, I know people who make roidheads cry when they work out because they wipe the floor with them, they have never used roids. Its a fair point just to the people who are reading this dont think you have to turn to steroids to beef yourself up, do it naturally and reap the benefits and dont be like all the gym queens who think they are something.

Train naturally for at least 2-3 years before touching 'Chemical Nutrition'.

If you take steroids before you've hit your natural genetic potential, you can actually hamper your ability to grow. Let me explain.

If your natural max is 200lbs and you train to that weight, with steroids you could get to 215-225lbs. (This is an example, don't take these numbers as true to all people).
On the same person, with a genetic 200lbs max, they train to 180lbs, then take steroids, they would likely max out at 205-215.

Even though both can get to 215lbs, the one that has already reached genetic potential has a larger maximum muscularity. Think of the difference between 205-225lbs. That's a possible 20lbs of muscle the guy could be missing out on.

Sucks to use steroids when you don't need to hu?

One last note on steroids. They will not make you muscular!!! That is a proven fact! If you take them, you will have to train harder, eat cleaner, and sleep longer! Taking steroids just by themselves and not training will just make you into a Moby Dick lookalike. Sorry, but it's true. Deal with it.

p.s. Every pro bodybuilder in the magazines is on steroids. Don't get into any illusions, you won't achieve that size without them.

p.p.s. Many models you see are on Clenbuterol. I know this from when I was modelling. They cheat to stay thin.

I think what you're getting at is if people wanting to BULK or LEAN out. Of course both of those are going to require a different diet and training.

To you, a Brad Pitt wannabe is someone who wants to get leaner, and a Pro Bodybuilder wannabe is someone who wants to get bigger. Correct?

If not, I think you're confusing more ppl than helping on this one.

I'm using those examples as the extremes. Pitt is tones but not big. Bodybuilder is big!

I wanted to stay away from terms like toned and bulking because they are vague. If I wanted to bulk, I'd be huge! If I wanted to tone, I'd still be much bigger than Pitt.

If someone is small and wants to bulk up, does that mean train like a bodybuilder? Or if someone is already bodybuilder size, training like Pitt would waste their muscle gains.

The whole issue is that people need to stop being vague and have an idea of what they want to look like before asking for advice.

If you train to get big, then try to slim the fat, you'll also lose muscle size unless you still train for size.

If people don't know what they want to look like, giving advice is just going to frustrate them. Especially on things like diet! Bulking up for a bodybuilder will ignore a 6pack. A Brad Pitt bulking up to a '300' Spartan physique, will need a totally different diet.

It's issues like that people need to think about when asking for advice and when giving it.
