I'm not fat and not skinny. I'm ok, closer to the skinny side though.

Btw, I've always wanted to go to the gym but thought that it was pointless without a plan and I wasn't really interested in bulking up like a bodybuilder and don't really want to sift through all the bodybuilding material to build my routine from scratch (I shall learn more about fitness as times goes on, I digress)

Anyhow, I came across this free plan:

I think it's pretty legit, opinions?

i done that for the first two phases but to be honest i didnt get the results i wanted.

the diets a bitch to follow but i did build up my overall strength significantly.

what i do know which im getting massive reults with is super sets.

for example

for biceps - 5 sets of barbell curl with dumbell curl with close grip pull up. do it in a pyramid structure so reps of 10 , 8 , 6 , 8 , 10 increasing and decreasing the weights so failure hits on the last rep of each excercise.

try to minimse rest periods aswell.

It's decent. It's low intensity, so you won't be getting results fast.

I suggest adding plyometrics (Jump training) in on wednesdays. It'll strengthen your legs.

Yoga everyother day. It should be sometime after your workout. Doesn't matter what time. (At night, post workout, doesn't matter) Reason is that building muscle contributes to loss of flexibility. Yoga is also a very good muscle builder.

You should also add some cardio. Maybe a brisk jog when you wake up?

For a free guide, it's ite.

I totally agree with your view that you think the gym is useless without a plan of action.

I take this further and say "A plan of action is void, without an end goal in mind."

Find the physique you want then build your plan of action around achieving that physique.

Find a celebrity, sports person, or whatever, that has the body you want, then we can better work on a plan for you.

You should check out a book called "Body For Life" that will sculpt a much more 'model' physique. That's what I used to use when I was modelling. And lots of swimming 'just for fun'.

My tastes changed and now I'm much more into 'bigger is better' and the training and nutrition is very different. It's much easier to advise when you have an idea of what people are aiming for.
