Just wanted to use an area of my expertise to help you guys out since this forum has helped me so much.
I'm currently serving in the marine corps, member of 24 hour fitness and have been going there pretty much my whole life. I'm working my way towards a personal trainer license. It'd be cool if you guys could post questions on workouts, diets, gym game, or anything u need to work on to build confidence and presence.
I'd love to help.

One thing i've noticed the most about most guys when they go to the gym
All they do is bench press and curls or things called isolation exercises.
These are good in their own way, however, if you want to see the most change you have to build a good foundation.
Ever wondered why you hit so many slumps? why your arms dont get any bigger or your chest even though you've been doing so many fucking curls?
Its because your isolating small muscles such has your bicep, tricep, deltoids. These small muscles are joined by bigger muscle groups that are not worked as often. As a result, you become weaker by allowing your body to disproportion.
Even when your doing isolation exercises you involve these bigger muscles when u increase weight. Ever notice why your back and whole body move to get that weight curled? This is extremely bad form, and it is not going to make any difference.
My advice to you is to start building your core muscles, back, hamstrings and all those foundation groups that hold your body together.
Doing exercises like the deadlift, squat, pull-up, dumbbell bench-press, hip extension, plank, lunge and tons more will hone these foundation muscles and explode your muscle growth.
Learn how to workout the smart way, and you'll see the biggest change.

I would suggest spreading out your meals. Instead of just three times a day ( you are eating breakfast rite?), make it around six. Have a big breakfast, followed by a snack ( maybe granola bar, protein bar, shake, smoothie, yogurt, apple), then lunch, snack ( trail mix, nuts, salad, light sandwich), and then dinner and possibly an evening snack.
This way you keep your metabolism in check so you dont binge out every meal.

Have a strict, disciplined diet free of soda, ice cream, chips, even beer.
If you cant handle not drinking beer for instance, just say to yourself. I can drink three in a week. Reward yourself after a workout with one. This slowly weans you out of it. Thats what i did with soda, now i dont even blink an eye when i pass soda in the grocery aisle.

Start working on cardio especially sprints. Workouts that engage your fast twitch muscles, those anaerobic exercises with explosive energy is proven to burn the most fat. Also, run, or if you dont like running, use the elliptical and work slowly from a mile to three miles. Try to go to the gym every other day. weightlifting also helps you burn a lot of excess fat by replacing it with lean muscle.
Also, check out some sites on the internet such as the belly off club that gives you cool recipes and workouts to do everyday. Mens health magazine is a great tool to learn about everything.

Hope this helps, and best of luck
