Hey, thanks to all the guys posting on the benefits of diet and exercise. This is a must for anyone trying to be a high functioning human being.... which in turn shows value and helps get girls. While we are running routines and gaming its important to be at peak mental shape. A healthy diet will improve this... 100% I have some thoughts on ways to improve this over the years.

There are three products that I take that I am thoroughly convinced help my cognitive response times... Not smarter, just quicker. But in game, timing can be everything.

1. Omega 3s- I use Fish and hemp oils as my source. DHA is brain food... also numerous other health benefits. Dont over do them. Just use them.
2. Lecithin- helps brain function
3. Phosphatidylserine- Found in Lecithin but large amount improve brain functions.

I strongly believe in these products. They are "generally considered safe" and found in every health food store. That being said this is not a magic pill... I would say it took 6-8 months before I noticed a difference... and it was a board game with my family when I have that first "oh wow" moment. And again, you wont be able to understand rocket science but will have a faster working mind for the things you do understand.

Im testing a new product that Ill mention but still waiting to fully endorse. Im on my first bottle of Alpha Brain my a company called Onnit. If you listen to the Joe Rogan Experience you know what Im talking about. It is a complex nootropic. Google it. Ive only taken it a couple of times but it did seem to make me sharper... Ive already decided to buy another bottle and keep with it to see if I have an opinion. Ill post on this thread any updates....

Im open to critiques, products you use, and conversation on the topic.... I find it fascination.

I don't have anything really to add. I take omega-3s and multivitamins not for "brain power" but over all health. I am wondering do you workout and if so has it helped with that. Since most of your strength will come from mind muscle conection, so if it allows you to focus more it should help.

I personally think every human could benefit from a multi and some O3s. Good for you man. I do work out regularly. Ive worked out so long that I cant say specifically that it improved brain power but I do subscribe to the thought that a finely tuned machine with work best in all functions. I just added my thought on these products because I felt they acutely effected my brain function. Which helped me work just a hair faster when gaming... Thanks for the thoughts man.

I used to take fish oil, but not anymore because it's so easy to go rancid. I take krill oil now which I've hear is more stable but I'm still looking into it. I'm gonna get cod liver oil after. I'm using a whole foods multi as well as I don't like synthetic vitamins.

Intermittent fasting has also helped me think faster and be more alert in just a few weeks. You can look up the research on why that happens. It's pretty cool.

How long do you fast for? How often?

Check out the IF thread, I explain more there. I only recommend two intermittent fasting protocols as I believe they are the easiest to comply with long term.

1st protocol, Leangains (google it) I fast 16 hours everyday, basically skip breakfast and eat in an 8 hour window with 3 big meals, same calories I would have if I ate 5-6 times a day.

Protocol 2 (Eat Stop Eat). You basically continue the same lifestyle you have now but fast for 24 hours once a week. You still eat everyday cause you can fast from 6pm to 6pm next day.

They are both good protocols. I like the leangains approach cause it's suit my lifestyle better and it's pretty efficient. A lot of bodybuilders use the same approach.

You gotta do your research. Fasting improves insulin sensitivity among other things. Blood sugar should be fine. If you have diabetes, you should look into a paelo diet with IF to put it into remission. I also recommend Ecklonia Cava Extract. It's good as a natural viagra as well....The power of food, if only more people were aware they wouldn't be dying from pharmacutical drugs so much, but that's corruption for you. Anyways, look into those protocols and a lot of your questions will be answered. It's a fun read.

Thank again man, good stuff. Ive actually been doing the paleo diet for a few months now. One of the things mark sisson talked about was fasting thru the night and working out first thing in the morning before eating. I tried this last week and it fucked me up for the entire day. I have always been someone that had to eat twice before I could do any exercise. This doesnt seem normal of me but there I stand. This is why Im hesitant to fast... but Ive read some on fasting and seems beneficial.

marki sisson has a 7 page write up on intermittent fasting. You can read that to learn more. You don't have to exercise while fasting. I don't due to my work schedule. If you still want to try it, you can have 10 grams of BCAAs beforehand for protein synthesis. Anyways, check it out for yourself. You'll find what works for you after experimenting a bit.

If you want to boost brain function, from a scientific point of view you want to be eating more Unsaturated fats, and less saturated fats.

Why?

The cells in your brain, like all cells, have a membrane. The more Fluid the membrane is, the more permeable it is. This means that substances can pass through it with more ease. In the case of a brain cell this means signals can travel faster. An unsaturated fat is more fluid than a saturated fat. (cheese is mostly saturated, olive oil is unsaturated). and as your cells renew parts of their membrane all the time, if there's more unsaturates about, they'll make up more of the membrane.

That is put very simply, But the moral of the story is...

Try to include more oils than solid fats in your diet if you want better brain function.

taking omega 3 is a very good idea!

Totally agreed man, Im big on fish oils and hemp oil. One was DHA and EPA...the other lets the body convert what it needs. Thanks!

And I accept nootropicboost, they improve memory, intellectual performance, stimulate cognitive activity, that is, restore processes that could be disturbed as a result of the damaging effects of adverse factors.
