How to get the ball rolling on a diet?

So I'm a bit of a fast food junkee. I would be willing to say I eat well more often than not, but for instance, today I went to McDonald's for my lunch break. Usually after I eat my lunch at work, I get hungry just a couple hours later and end up going out to eat due to not having any more food around. I gotta get this monkey off my back!

To that end, what are some good snacks to have that could satisfy food cravings I get during my day, and what are some good (SAFE) ways of curbing your appetite?

I bring a whole fucking kg of cooked lean ground turkey to work, and a bag of wraps, any time im hungry I just nuke up some turkey and throw it in a wrap

For the caloric value of a big mac you can eat a whole lot more tasty healthy food. To get you started without overcomplicating, you can just ditch all of the junk food and soda and eat whatever else you like in a healthy category. Lean meat, good carbs, good fats. Now the trick is to eat slowly, really slowly and chew well. Stop when you're full. By eating slowly you get to enjoy the taste longer and get the signals from your brain that your full, but also you secrete more enzymes because you prep your stomach for the food that's about to come. The more variety you add to your diet the healthier it'll be. This is just to get you started and to see how little food you actually need to feel full, also it will address the emotional issues of eating. If you must eat junk, if you can't resist it, eat it but with the same rules, slowly, chewing, stop when full. When you feel you're ready to do some more spartan dieting, when you're psychologically ready, then we can give you more complicated tips which will make the pounds come down faster. But for starters, this will be enough to notice a considerable difference. I lost about 20 pounds in 2 and half months this way, no effort at all.
Also, increase your incidental activity. If you don't work out and aren't really keen on starting, increase your walking distance by not being lazy. Take stairs instead of elevator, park at the end of the parking lot, wherever you can, move more. It's really amazing what just little activity can do for you, and again, it's no effort at all. Small changes accumulate and when you see what they can do, they make you want to work out and eat healthy because you know you can have even better results with more dedication. But what I've outlined here alone will do a lot for your looks.

Almonds are a fantastic healthy snack for getting over those random cravings.

Smartest thing to do though is what pumpington said, just bringing premade meals to work if its sandwiches or meals in tupperware.

so if you compare a days worth of healthy food, is less then 1 meal from mcdonalds, and that is not even the large size

There is one thing very few people understand about calories. Your body does not get hungry cause of calories. Your body is hungry for Protien,Fat, or SPAM/Minerals. Currently I am taking in about 1200 calories a day and I am never hungry ( I weigh 224lbs).

In the morning I take 2 scoops of protien powder shake 50g of Protien I then take 3 EFA(Essential Fatty Acid) pills followed by a Multivitamin. I then dont get hungry till lunch which I do the same then again for dinner and one last time after I work out. 800calories in protien 200g, 400 calories of EPAs 9 pills, 0 calories in vitamins.

The trick that fast food does.
Sugar tricks your body into thinking your taking in protien
Salt tricks your body into thinking your getting vitamins/minerals
Omega 6 Fatty acid(the kind found in fast food) tells your body it is getting fat but when your body needs Omega 3 it tells you that you need more fat which you then get more Omega 6.

Now I am not saying to stop eating, go ahead try this and keep eating but you will see yourself constantly throwing away food cause you just wont be hungry and wont finish it cause your body has what it needs and wants.

Hm, okay Pump, I see your point. I prefer beef to turkey, but it wouldn't be a bad decision to take in some kinda meat and some wraps to have a viable snack. So far all I have is a container of low sodium mixed nuts, but hell I know better than to have more than 1-2 ounces a day of those.

Thanks guys, today's another workout day so all I need is a little discipline.

avoid red meat and simple carbs if you want to lose weight (beef/pork is red meat), also I mix my turkey/chicken/fish with taco seasoning for the wraps so they don't taste so bland, you can pick a giant variety of spices from the supermarket depending on your tastes, my trainer when I started dieting told me only 2-3 servings of red meat every 2 weeks

Pumpy, at the risk of being rude, I could get varying advice on what to eat from a dozen people citing trainers, nutritionists, doctors, etc. I did buy ground turkey to try it out, but at the end of the day discipline and self-control are not two of my strong points. To that end, it seems smarter to just start by cutting out the REALLY unhealthy stuff like chips, pop, and fast food, and seeing how a regular ol' human diet does coupled with my workout before I get too particular about what I eat in what quantities. The help, overall, is appreciated nonetheless.

I agree there must be discipline, sure. But the thing with food addiction and emotional eating is that willpower is not enough and will never be enough for people who have a real problem with this. This is really hard to understand for people who have a healthy relationship with food.
I tried to lose weight for about 7 years, losing some, gaining all back. I did sports this whole time, gym and later karate up to 5 times a week! But I was totally overeating at the same time, when my discipline and willpower failed. What helped me finally lose weight and most of all change my attitude towards food was the principle I outlined above, I actually followed the program "Paul McKenna can make you thin". It worked. After first 30 pounds my eating habits and attitude towards food were such I could go on a real diet, more of a sports nutrition program, which took of the last 20 pounds. I know where OP is coming from, damn, I used to cram those burgers down my throat faster than you can say "ketchup".
OP, if you have a hard time sticking to a diet, just try what I said in my first post. I guarantee you'll see results. You just have to make eating a conscious process and not mistake emotional hunger for real hunger or thirst for hunger.
The diet you stick to is always better than the diet you don't stick to.

Oh shut the hell up, I said I was a fast food junkee as a figure of speech...food addiction? bullshit. I'm tired of everything being an addiction. I get hungry, usually multiple times a day, and needed better options than french fries.
