Basically, I've recently started eating pretty healthy, I think.

I've quit drinking soda for the most part. I use to drink at least one 20oz bottle a day...Now I might have 1 in a week or 2. I quit smoking cold turkey 2 months ago.. So the next step was to start eating healthy.

Now, due to financial issues, I can not afford much of anything. So to break it down, I've been eating quite a few oranges/clementines. When I have Clementines, I'd eat at least, 2 per day. I got some oranges on sale this week though, and have had at least 1 per day.

I also recently discovered that Carrots are an acquired taste lol. The past few days I have had 1 carrot, and 1 stem of Celery.

And for dinner, I usually have green beans or broccoli as my veggie.

My main question is though, provided with the information I have given you...With the oranges/clementines, celery, and carrots.......How much of each should I set as a goal to eat per day, to achieve my daily recommended "dose" of good stuff?

At the rate I'm going, I'm actually started to enjoy eating these things. Instead of making a PB&J Sandwich...I'll eat some celery. It tastes good, and overall is making me feel better physically, and just about myself.

I've been looking for a GOOD/CURRENT nutritional/diet forum that I can start to post at...But I haven't been able to find one. I did find one that looked good, but it had no recent activity.

So if anyone could help me to determine how much of these fruits and veggies I should eat per day, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

congratulations for quitting smoking.

when it comes to food that is best for you, it's better to go by feeling while sticking to the basics like minimizing sugar consumption, avoiding processed and fried foods.
it gets more complicated if you try to avoid the intake of toxins: don't microwave food, don't use teflon pans, don't eat canned food (canned food should have a cancer warning label like cigarette packs), avoid aspartame and some other arrtificial sweeteners, etc.....

now, if you got access to a local farmer where you can buy fruits, vegetables and maybe even milk (non pasteurized), then you should go for that kind of food.
locally grown food (where you live) is best for you..it's as simple as that. if you want background info on it, look into Georges Lakhovsky's works, or his book "the secret of life".

you can knock yourself out with healthy food/diet books, but don't take them too serious. there are many different diet plans out there and most of them may have been proven to work for many people but they may not be the right thing for you. you might find a holistic health/detox book more helpful in the long run.
only you can feel what your body needs. if you crave salt for example you may lack minerals ..
if you feel the healthy foods you've chosen so far are good for you, then they are..
try the different fruits and veggies that are naturally available in your area/country at the given time of year and ignore the exotic stuff that has to be imported and therefore costs more anyway.

Thanks for the reply...

Basically all I have right now is oranges, celery, and carrots.
Soon I'll start getting pomegranates and kiwi's as well.

I appreciate your reply, but it didn't really answer my question lol Although I will look into some books as you mentioned

I know there is a daily dose of what you should have every day..

I was just wondering how many carrots, celery stems, and oranges should I be eating per day to achieve my daily servings of everything.

For example, I'll just throw some numbers out there... but say an orange contains 5% of the amount of good stuff you're supposed to get in your body per day..So with that said, I would have to eat 20 oranges to get 100% of the amount of good stuff for any given day...

I don't know much about nutritional values and how much of this/that I should get in my body...that's what I'm asking.

I have oranges, celery, and carrots to eat whenever I want. Then broccoli and greenbeans for dinner.

So how much of these should I be eating per day, to achieve the amount of nutrition we're supposed to intake every day?

I'm going to keep on searching the internet for websites and books, but I thought I'd start here first

Thanks again

to get your daily required amount of nutrients covered you'd need to eat fruits and raw veggies like a lumberjack... is what some nutrition experts would say nowadays, since the nutrition in our food isn't what it used to be.
you can try sticking to a "recommended daily intake" list of foods.. or simply take suplements..

nutrition experts can bash each other heads in over what is needed..ignoring the mistery of the many people who have no nutrition deficiencies and are perfectly healthy but live on light (and air) only.

yes, living on light, such as in breatharianism:

Dude...where's your protein, and fats at?

I've recentely done an interview...I've outlined my diet in this as well as my training.

Good work so far on taking the step. I know a few people who wouldn't cut out fizzy drinks/soda!
