For me, jogging or cycling outside doesn't work, because I lose motivation after 2 or 3 weeks and stop doing it.
However, doing the same activities at the gym keeps me motivated and willing to go next day.
Like I said, you have to see what works for you.

You don't have to socialize if you don't feel like it. You're not there to socialize anyway. If running into people you know really bothers you, try going at a time of day where there wouldn't be that many people in the gym.
