Decided I'm gonna give it a whirl.

Decided to take a break from heavy weights to concentrate on my career, but I still want to look better so I was thinking diet is a good start.

I did the whole low carb cycling stuff , macros etc and that in itself requires a lot of commitment with constantly cooking and weighing food and measuring CALS.

So was wondering what was everyone's opinions on I.F. and who are the people I need to study?

And possibly a quick try instructions so I can start today.

Thanx

Pebble

it really has no huge effect compared to regular dieting but it's possible different people have different experiences with I.F.

I found it was pretty convenient for eating around my working schedule cause you can just go to work and not eat at work then come home and have your feeding window, also it worked out pretty good cause you may not feel as hungry right when you wake up compared to after a few hours of being awake and you really get used to this after a while and feel hungry around the same time every day

other then convenience though, didn't really notice a difference when you eat less calories you lose weight, when you eat more, you gain, when you don't get in enough fat/protein/fiber you tend to feel less satiated

there are a lot of I.F. diets out there but right now leangains is pretty popular, I.F. is pretty simple, just pick a time frame every day to repeat so that you always eat at the same time, place the feeding times around your workouts focusing on getting your biggest meal post workout, 8 hour time window to eat your meals, 16 hours of the day you fast, nothing that contains calories or it breaks the fast during your 16 hour window, black coffee, tea, water all ok, if you workout fasted then you can take bcaa before a workout or a protein shake

you might feel pretty hungry at first during your fasting window but eventually it stops and you adjust, you also should still be keeping track of what you eat and monitoring your caloric intake / activity level if you plan to lose weight, the laws of thermogenesis still apply and a calorie is still a calorie

Thank you so much

I also like to have a nice cheat meal with the girlfriend every now and then.

What's your opinion on the odd binge? :)

Also. Do you stick to low carbs or doesn't it really matter, I heard a paleo type of foods and IF are a great combo.

binging can really set you back, when you are under caloric restriction most guys tdee tends to slightly move lower then average due to your body attempting to maintain homeostasis, cheat meals are pretty good to maintain sanity while dieting but if you are going really high above your caloric maintence you are going to get bloated and put on some water weight and possibly gain some fat

an approach I've found that works for me, is if you are feeling bored of eating under your tdee and it's starting to become mentally taxing, start increasing the calories by 50-100 a week until you gain some weight, make sure you are lifting weights and when you are increasing the caloric intake, make sure to keep track of what you are lifting and also make sure the weights are going up too with your weight, then when you feel like giving the dieting a shot again, just cut some calories off, the macros are pretty important for muscle protein synthesis, maintain nitrogen balance and hormonal balance, but eating some junk food once a week isn't really a problem as long as you don't binge above tdee, but understand that fat, fibre and protein are more satiating by far then hi gi carbohydrates, so you if you are getting some good junk food that has a ton of simple carbs in it, it won't even noticeable effect you body composition but on that day you will likely be much more hungry then usual and craving more food makeing you more likely to binge and take some steps back on your progress, also don't be too concerned when you see a few lbs weight gain after a carb session under your tdee, muscle glycogen causes you to retain more water (same with carbonation and sodium)

I tried IF last year and maybe it was my anxiousness, but I think it worked for me. I followed a strict diet and I felt a little bit of the effects, but as mentioned above nothing is better than a good custom diet.

I looked into Paleo dieting which is less demanding and still healthy and promotes similar benefits.

Best advice is to create a custom diet plan following whatever method you want, based on your schedule, and active hours. Best of luck!

I have been doing IF for 8 months now, and honestly it fits perfectly on my time schedule.
Personally I don't think there is any wrong doing IF, and I have been loosing fat way faster than eating 6-8 times in a day like typical body builder.

From my experiences IF is excellent if you don't have time to eat whenever you can, since it kinda give you more freedom not being stressed that you need to eat in x time frame or whatever. I am not saying this diet here is perfect or the other one is better, but like patsworld said. Follow whatever method you want as long it fits on your lifestyle.

Thanx guys

Think I will give this a little update.

For the last 5 days I have been eating one big meal at 8pm

Some days , especially when i dont have a lie in bed, it can be quite unbearable, for example , I would stop thinking about my important shit in my life and just concentrate ans fantasize about my up and coming meal but I've been still doing it because I want to get used to the hunger feeling, hopefully my hunger will tone down.

Im currently eating some shitty foods, but I still think it will put me in a cal deficit

I just had "5 bacon rashes, small can of baked beans, 2 fried eggs, 5 hash browns, tuna, boiled egg, mayo, onions.

Lol still hungry

I do plan on getting my fridge stocked up with more greens and lean proteins soon though, just want to experience fasting at the moment, then I can take a look at my macros etc.

I have to say though, it's great not having to prepare my meals for work , and not cal count constantly and cleaning Tupperware tubs constantly.

Yeah, it should do. I was doing IF for a couple of months and found that i just got into routine after a week or so, hunger was barely on my mind and my mental hunger was gone. To train my mind to avoid mental hunger though, I'd sometimes do a straight 24 hour fast. This really helped me and allowed me to feel the difference between real hunger and mental hunger.

A tip for people that are working out; Always start your eating period after you've finish your workout session. I saw pretty good results from eating after rather than before and never lacked energy in the gym neither even though i didn't eat for 18 hours (i done an 18/6 rather than 16/8). Furthermore, my friend did eat before going to the gym. His results was that he ended up losing fat (coming down to around 8% BF) but lost a lot of muscle too due to his muscles not getting what they needed after a workout.

Intermittent fasting is invented and promoted by a guy (martin berkhan) using trenbolone and clenbuterol, dont use his personal physique as a reference to how effective IF is.

IF is a very specific diet that should NOT be used by an average person trying to drop body fat %. Only wen you are trying to drop to contest low body fat %'s ( ~5%) should you ever consider doing something like fasting on heavy stims. The fact that you ask about IF implies that you should not do it. It might not do you any harm if you dont use the associated stims (clen, alb, yohimbine).., but it wont have any benefits either.
