So I started off doing the p90x, but I find that it is too cardio based. What I mean is I am constantly gasping for breath, and as a skinny guy with like next to no body fat it is completely pointless. I need a workout routine that uses dumbbells, Chin up bar and body exercises. My friends have recommended me to do 'scoobys' home workout intermediate level, but is there anything out there that stands out for a guy with the body type like me? I am eating a lot more than I used to already, and it is kinda costly (I don't like asking my mum to buy extra food and feel bad about it). So I want to get the most out of the food I eat.

I am a naturally skinny guy with a super fast motabolism. Perfect build for a girl, but not so much for a guy! On the other hand I do see results extremely quickly. My arms are looking very nice, and my torso and abs too! All this in about 2 and a half weeks. But again the p90x workout is too intense, and the intensity is really not needed. (I feel sick/headrush all the time, and I don't need any cardio as I cycle to college 50mins every day).

Gaining weight= More calories. And if you want to maintain that weight, you have to keep eating the same amount of calories. Hate to break it to ya bro... But that's the truth behind body building. In order to gain 1 pound, you need to take in an EXTRA 3500 calories over a certain amount of time. If you aren't gaining weight eating what you do now, add 1000 calories/day to your diet. And its not just how much, its WHAT you are eating and WHEN you are eating it. Common diet break down in body building is 40% carbs, 40% protein, 20% fat. Take in twice your body weight in grams of protein/day to get solid muscle gains. So if you weight 150 pounds, take in 300 grams of protein/day. However, your body can only digest 40 grams of protein every 2 hours. So instead of eating 3 or 4 meals a day... eat 8, 9 or 10 small meals a day. Every time you get the LEAST bit hungry, SLAM yourself with as much food as you can take in. Look on bodybuilding.com to get some good diet ideas and figure out what type of foods you like to eat. They have recipes and everything on there.

And doing P90x will definitely tone you up... but you won't gain weight off of it. You need to be lifting weights. A gym membership is cheap. And you don't need to or WANT TO spend a ton of time in the gym. The more time you spend in the gym, the more calories you are burning. Activate the muscles, don't annihilate them. 20-30 minute lifting sessions. MAKE SURE YOU STRETCH DAMN IT!!!!!!

The key is to lift like you are big. Eat like you are bigger. And SLEEP like a beast in hibernation. and drink lots of water. Bulking is my favorite thing (unfortunately its cutting season for me now!) because you can pretty much eat whatever the fuck you want as long as you take in all of your macro nutrients for the day.

Lift, eat, sleep, grow, repeat.

Hi Ridler,
Squatting is one of the crucial exercises to gain weight at home. Increase your caloric intake and consume lots of proteins. Increase your number of meals and eat lots of cnacks. Add smarter food more in your diet meals, drink energy fluids and take supplements. Increase your workouts and lift weights.

Thanks guys, sorry I gave up on this post a while ago as there was no reply for ages.. cheers for the great advice. I have gained 2 kilos in a 3 weeks now (it could all be water weight, but before I looked a bit unhealthy and slightly too skinny.. Now I look slightly lean and my form looks awesome). I am eating 3000 calories a day, and I have more heavy weights to play around with. I do p90x for my back/lats n cardio exercises (using chin up bar, pyrolympics etc), but the rest of my work outs I do with heavy pair of dumbbells. I have 50kg total weights now, I have ordered another 30kg and a long straight bar + ez curl bar off ebay which will help me a lot!

I don't know why but since I have started working out my confidence has sky rocketed. I am much happier and my friends seem to have noticed it.. I am a happier person and me and my friends seem to respect me more. This dedication I have for my health has definitely transferred to the rest of my life. In my education etc. Before I was very unhappy and probably had depression, and now my life is back on track and it feels so great!

Compound bar bell exercises are your best friend. Squat, military press, dead lift, bench press, power clean etc. Chin ups are another great one. Check out the Starting Strength program by Mark Rippletoe. You'd have to fork out for a bench/squat rack/weights or join a gym but it depends on how serious you are on gaining muscle. And eat well, sleep well, drink well as the above posters have said.

I would suggest visiting nerdfitness . There is a ton of info there for what you are looking for. I went paleo and although i lost a ton of weight there is a huge difference in muscle mass for me now.

THIS. If you are trying to look good shirtless, If your workout doesn't involve heavy weight lifting, you are wasting your fucking time.

if you serious about getting bigger WITHOUT fat, go to Ben Pakulski's website and check out his program MI40. He's one of the top bodybuilders and is definitely one of the smartest fitness guys out there.

The longer period you spend in the gym, the more calories you are losing. Stimulate the muscle tissue, don't eradicate them. 20-30 moment raising sessions you should..

Have a look at Visual Impact Muscle Building by Rusty Moore. Read it, complete the program and you will be impressed by the results.

Google stronglifts 5x5. Or you can do Starting Strength. They're pretty much the same, but stronglifts is free. I've been doing it for 1.5 months now, and I've gained 10 lbs of muscle. I'm really skinny too with a fast metabolism so I pretty much have to force feed myself a lot of calories and protein. Whey protein helps with the diet too. And lots of milk. Hope this helps.
