In order to make quick gains, consume 100% DV of protein, eat cottage cheese for fat and then do only three exercises: Benchpress, deadlift, squat.
I went from 6'4" 170 lbs, scrawny to 255 lbs and I actually have muscles now. Worked for me.
By the way, if you start to get too much fat, simply turn your eating into a vegetarian diet and make sure you eat within a half hour of waking up because it speeds up your metabolism. You'll need to balance this. Hope this helps. _________________ That's my $0.02

But no matter how much your eating you just have to eat MORE. Something like mashed potatoes is great because it has TONS of good clean carbs. pastas, rice, and other carbohydrate sources are great. and if you want to turn it into muscle and not fat you obviously have to weight lift. If you dong it will just go to your gut. and big weight builds big muscles.
I actually know a lot about it. I've been trying to put on size for the past year+ and I've gained over 30 pounds

Protein is also important for weight gain so we should eat high calories and protein food like cheese, fish, chicken, egg, meat and vegetables.

You need to eat more....period!
You don't have to do it all at once, but you should gradually increase food over the weeks until you see the number on the scale start to change.
What I tend to do is to have 4 staple meals which I then add volume to each week.
ie. Week 1: 150g of steak per meal
Week 2: 200g of steak per meal and so on.
And also drink WAY TOO MUCH MILK!!
Try and add a litre of milk into your daily intake a week.
ie. Week 1: 1 litre of milk per day.
Week 2: 2 litres of milk per day.
Week 3: 3 litres of milk per day
Week 4: 4 litres of milk per day.
Soon enough you will reach critical mass where you have found the amount you have to eat to get things moving. Be aware it can take your stomach time to stretch, hence why I recommend the gradual build up.
Feel free to ask anything else. _________________ Be the best you can be!
