How do you get rid of a big gut, or pop belly?

Is there anything you can do about a pop belly? I'm only 30 yrs old and I am not even over weight, but non-the-less, when I look at a side view of myself in the mirror my stomach looks like it's popping out. All the guys in my family have guts like this even though they're not over weight.

I've been doing crunches for a few months now and it's still there, so I'm not sure if I will ever get rid of it by trying to exercise it off. If heard somewhere that pop bellies can be caused by our fecal matter (from eating certain foods) which gets stuck to the intestinal walls, and that doing a few colonics can clean it out. Whether that's true or not I don't know, that's why I'm curious to see if any of you guys have gotten rid of a pop belly.

If any of you have managed to get rid of a pop belly (and I'm not talking about a pig), let me know how you did it?

Simple. Start working out and eating right. Men store fat around their midsection the most and then it spreads in layers through out their body. You need to burn the fat off in order to get rid of it. Get on a good cardio and lifting program with a balanced diet and you will watch it disappear. The bigger your shoulders and chest are, the smaller your stomach appears.

Doing a bunch of crunches is only going to get you an extra strong set of abs with the same layers of fat over it. Working your abs non-stop is not going to help your problem.

Even though I have a pop belly, I am actually underweight. I'm 5' 7" and I weigh 125. It's miraculous that I still managed to get a pop belly. And it's messed up that now i need to lose weight (stomach fat) when I'm already underweight to begin with. I've weight 125 consistently for several years now.

I've actually had a doctor tell me once that I was underweight for my height and that I need to gain weight in the form of muscle instead of fat. He said muscle weighs more than fat, although it sure doesn't seem like it since I never seem to gain any weight from exercising. I believe he said i should weigh at least 140 if not 150 for my height. I'm pretty sure if I gained that much muscle I would be pretty stocky for 5' 7".

I have been walking 30 minutes a day everyday for over a year now, so that's some cardio. I will change that to 1 hour a day to try to get rid of this pop belly. I do eat pretty good already for the most part and I don't over eat. I just eat when I'm hungry. I have recently started lifting not to build a lot of muscle, but to tone my body.

What I got from one of them websites you linked to was the fact that I should go ahead and try to build some muscle first sense I'm underweight. And that will make it easier for me to lose some weight in my stomach. And, that you really need to do cardo for at least an hour a day to lose weight including stomach fat. And there was mention of burning more calories than you consume. But, I'm not going to count calories, and I'm not going to go hungry. So, I'm going to focus more on the other stuff.

Anybody who's lost stomach fat share your story with us of how you did it.

I personally went through a complete body transformation. I'm 5'10. I weighed 298 at my highest. I was 46% body fat... I'll let you imagine what that looks like lol I took my diet and work out VERY serious for a long time. I cut myself down to 190 and I was a "skinny fat guy." My body fat was still in the high teens and then I started lifting and got involved in pro hormones and such and got up to about 230 and my body fat was down to 11%.... Beastly is the best way I can describe the way I looked. Since, I have stopped taking things so seriously in the gym and stopped basing masculinity on my muscularity...

If you are 5'7 and pack on 20 pounds of muscle, you will look extra lean. People who are skinny and stay skinny usually have a hard time gaining weight. (meaning muscle) However, since you have the ability to store the fat in your stomach, that means your metabolism isn't going to be working against you and burning off more calories than you can take in.

In order to gain weight, you need to eat more calories than you burn, and in order to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you take in. In order to gain a pound or lose a pound... You need to take in or burn off 3500 calories extra. So, whatever you are eating now... Add 1000 calories a day to it. They have Mass Gainer protein shakes that you can buy in order to get the extra calories in cause its not easy eating that much lol You should gain about 2 pounds a week... As long as you are eating clean and on a good lifting routine, you will gain muscle. (you will probably gain some fat too but I'm about to tell you how to cut that off.)

Body building works in cycles... Bulking or cutting. The reason you will read to bulk before you cut is because every pound of muscle that you gain, you burn and EXTRA 50 calories a day while you are at rest... So if you gain 20 pounds, your body is naturally going to burn off 1000 calories more DAILY. Muscle= Metabolism. After you bulk up, cut your calorie intake, start doing some good cardio, KEEP LIFTING and you will rip all the fat off and be able to build the type of body that you want for yourself.

You won't look stocky gaining muscle... You will pack on a little bit of size, but trust me... It is not easy to get HUGE lol it took me 4 years to get basketballs where my shoulders were supposed to go. A pound of fat is equal to (in size) 4 sticks of butter spread through out your body. Where as a pound of muscle is about the size of a tennis ball, packed tightly against your skeleton. You will honestly probably weigh MORE but be physically SMALLER. If you need some help, feel free to shoot me a message. I was certified as a personal trainer with LA Fitness about 2 years ago so I'm still pretty knowledgeable on the subject.

I got rid of that belly this year, maybe I did not use the most efficient and healthiest method but I can tell you that it worked very good.

I'm 5'6 and at the beginning of this year I used to weight 125 pounds...
I wanted to get a six pack no matter what so I stopped eating junk food, and started counting my calorie intake to be everyday below 1800...
To that I added my normal exercise routine which consist in running between 30 to 40 miles a week. And 3 days a week doing general strength in the gym.
After two weeks I read that you can start consuming energy from your muscles so I started to take a protein shake every time after finishing my strength routine.

After 5 weeks of this I already had a flat belly.
I'm continuing doing that because I want to get a well defined 6 pack.

It is difficult you'll have to deal with a lot of hunger, but if you just want a flat belly you can achieve that in 5 weeks.
The other problem is the weight, I'm in 110 pounds now... Fitter than ever, lifting more weights than ever, the racing season for me has not started yet but I'm already running better than at the end of the previous season.
But 110 ??? that is too less :P now I need to do something to gain at least 4 pounds more and without increasing my body fat %

The easiest and most reliable method to get rid of it is the following exercise.
Just lay down easily and nicely on smooth surface like ground, Lift your both Legs slowly and raise them Two Feet from ground. This is called FootBaller's exercise, which is one of the most famous exercises in the world for shortening your Belly.
