A= the amount of calories you need to
maintain your current weight
A-500 (calories a day) x 7 (days a week)=3500 calorie deduction a week
it just so happens that there is 3500 calories in a pound of fat.
In order to determine "A" first you need to weight yourself than count calories for a determined amount of days lets say 7 days (14 would be better) if you don't gain or lose a pound multiply the total amount of calories you've eaten by the number of days you counted.
