Well done on the weight lose.

I find no/very few carbs after 18.00pm works well for me. Currently im looking to tone up, then im planning to build muscle and end up at around 13st8lbs by june 2010.

For toning up I stick to a high protein, medium carbs and low fat works best for me. Its around 180g of protein, 200g of carbs and 50g of fat which equates to 1970kcals per day. This took numerous attempts at losing weight to discover so just keep at it and you'll understand your own body after a while. When I plan to build muscle I'll increase my kcals to around 2500.

As for training (I also hate running) I walk around four miles every day, box every tuesday/thursday/saturday and weight train every monday/wednesday/friday.

For those of you who have lost weight, kudos to you.

I was 243# back in the beginning of October 2009. Now, Dec. 15th, 2009, I am down to 208# and I am 5'11". What I did is no big secret. All the information is out there, people just need to accept it for what it is.

Now this is what I did to lose that weight.

1.When I walk my dog, when its not raining, I walk 1.25 miles each time. I normally do this two times a day, once in the morning and once in the evening, so that is 2.5miles per day.

2. I only eat meat 3 days per week, the other 4 days its all veggies and fruits and startches. Meat has fat ready to store, whereas fruits/vegetables/startches, it must be converted to fat, so it actually burns energy during the conversion process. Try to keep your caloric intake to less than 1750 per day but you are allowed to binge ONLY one day per week.

3. Drink LOTS of water. Doing so will keep your body cleaner and allows your liver to process foods better. Stay away from drinking too much sodas. Try to drink not more than one per day, and if you do, drink lots of water that day.

4. I worked out at least 3 days a week, and for every day that I work out, I incorporate at least 30 minutes cardio, no matter what the cardio is, do it. The rest of the stuff is weight training. Any good routine should work for you. I even put Pilate into the mix which I consider both cardio and resistance training for one hour and I think it does wonders, not only for your joints, but for overal body toning as well.

5. I also lowered my alcohol consumption to only 3 servings per week (notice I said 3 servings and not more). Bier has a lot of calories and that was killing my weight loss program.

Also, my biggest enemy was Beer and that I had ACL replacement surgery a year and half ago. So I totally ingored anything hard on my knees, which was a big no-no for rehabilitation. That was something I had to change to move on and get with the program.

I was losing about 2-3# per week, which my doctor said was ok just so long I was exercising, eating healthy and sleeping at least 8 hrs per day.

Then there is the skin toning, skin reabssorbs itself 1-2 incher per month. So as you get flabby, it will eventually go away, just give it time.

I can say with some level of certainty, LOOKS DO MATTER.. when I was fat, girls I didn't know wouldn't even give me the time of day, now, they are constantly giving me glances my way. So if people say it doesn't matter, bullshit. If girls don't know you, your looks are the only thing they have to judge you by as a first impression, so make it an effort to dress and look your best. Think about it, if you are fat and not well kepted, girls think that you have low self-esteem to take care of yourself and that is NOT attractive.

Once you start seeing the weight shed off, it becomes encouraging and before you know it you are the guy everyone wants to know.

Best of luck,

J-Dub

Hey J-Dub,

I know where you're coming from. Back when I posted in this thread on 10/27, I was 243 lbs. Now I'm down to 223. I'm 6'3", and my target weight is 192 lbs., which I hope to reach by early April.

I'm going to the gym almost daily, which equates to running 3 miles per day on the treadmill. This week I'll start a weight lifting regimen, switching off between running and weights. In terms of intake, I'm counting calories, and eat about 1600-2200 kcals per day.

The effects are encouraging. I used to always wear XXLs, but now I swim in them. I can't ever remember being able to fit into Large shirts, or 34" jeans, when I always wore 38"-40" before. And my family/friends are noticing, too. It's a great feeling, knowing that I'm doing something to improve not only my looks, but my health, too. And it's working!

Great to hear so many success stories, it's good motivation. I've been working out for 4-5 days a week for about a month and a half. When I started I was 276 but after going to the gym and eating better I'm down to around 251, and I've built some pretty good muscle definition in my arms. It's awesome to see the results come in like that, and now I'm no longer going to the gym because I have to but because working out keeps feeling better and better. It's addicting after awhile, especially when you start seeing your body change right before your eyes. The only bad thing is I'll keep having to buy new jeans, I've almost lost two pant sizes lol. So much for having cash
