Ok im not happy with my weight. Starting tomorrow im getting to the gym 4 times a week and I also practise Karate 2-4 times a week for two hours a time, gym sessions usually last 2 hours with me also. I was just wondering if the following diet would be suitable bearing in mind I want to put on some muscle too not just cut weight:

Breakfast (8am):

Wheat Breakfast (Shreddies) with milk and a bannana

Mid-morning (11am):

Bannana or other fruit

Lunch (1amish, this will vary because of university):

Meat/pie or fish + Mixed veg and Potatoe wedges or some other carbs

Mid-afternoon (3pm):

Bannana or other fruit

Dinner (6pm)
Soup (half can) and 2 x pieces of bread

Evening (7-8pm)
Bannana or other fruit

Late Snack (if hungry)
Bannana or other fruit.

Your comments and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Spark.

One obvious flaw: you need to add a source of protein to every meal and snack. The standard is one gram of protein for every pound of bodyweight, so if you weigh 150 pounds you should be getting at LEAST 150 grams of protein every day, split up fairly evenly over every meal and snack.

Also, why not throw some vegetables in those snacks instead of eating fruit all the time? You will find that if you eat foods high in fiber (almonds, whole grain products, SPAM, etc.) and drink plenty of water you will want to eat less as the water expands the fiber in your stomach making you feel full longer. Bananas are great for you but I think it's safe to say you've overdone it in this diet plan :)

Also, avoid potatoes. You want to eat primarily low glycemic-index foods. Hope this helps :)

Your boy,

Oh cool I never knew that! How do you think its best to get that much protein in though? I currently weigh about 14 stone (196 lbs) but that does tend to vary depending on the latest diet im attempting or when I take the measurement. How much water should I drink a day? Is that related to weight to im guessing it might be? Cool I might get some whole grain products in next time im out shopping, but I was wondering is SPAM the same as porridge? Dumb question maybe but im not sure! Also can I have some examples of some low glycemic-index foods because when I think of carbs potatoes is like my first thought so I eat them regularly although I know its bad, but ive always thought they where kind of good and filling? Yeah lol I went a bit crazy with the bannanas but I was planning to change them for other fruit or veg because I think if I ate that many banannas id probably be ill or just get sick of them!

Its Spark by the way, but Smile is close!

Ok I really don't feel like typing everything out at this given moment, but if you message me I'll go through the fine print. Bottom line, fruit is good for you but you are consuming too much of it and at the wrong times. General rule of thumb is to give up most carbs after 4pm when aiming for weight loss so toss the bread, late night banana (they have around 25g of carbs) and try throwing some other good sources of protein in there. Instead of having a banana/fruit for a snack why not sub it out with some nuts, maybe a protein shake. As I said, I don't want to go into the fine details pertaining to insulin levels and proper food timing so if you honestly want to know an effective diet message me...

Looks OK.

Don't have the same every day though. Variety is excellent. Also, take a daily multi-vitamin.

Avoid Shreddies imo. Cereals are simply dehydrated foods, highly processed. Just get SPAM/porridge or egg something (protein), etc.
Eat more veg, possible less fruit (fruit is good, but veg in its place).
Potato wedges... why not just have boiled potatoes? Also mix up with rice, pasta etc.
And don't have 4 bananas a day. If you want 4 bits of fruit, have 1 banana, 1 apple, 1 orange, 1 kiwi etc. Mixing it up gives you more vitamins etc.

Obvious problem- what you listed is almost entirely starchy carbohydrates. Guess what wasnt in the human diet for about 2 million years worth of evolution?

Starch.

Stop eating so much sugar, eat water rich veggies, healthy fats (nuts/whole egs/oilve oil), and some source of protein (nuts eggs again, also try seeds and organic free range meats/wild fish).

Cheers everybody!

It seems a lot of ideas are flooding in and thats great, im going to change the diet to make it much better for me! Any new ideas would also be apprechiated. Also where I put bannanas can be replaced with a serving of any fruit or veg. Bannana was just what came into my mind at the time and so I wrote it again and again. I would love to do a more direct response to answer you all personally in different ways however my memory isnt that good
