I've been very passionate about (quality, clubbin)House music lately. Im' realy addicted to this music.

I wanted to start a new hobby. Many people play an instrument, like guitare. Guitare is a pickup weapon in the right hands, and DHV. I was thinking about start playing it, however, i found it too try-hard and wannebe if i started guitare, especially since i don't listen that much to rock and guitare music.

But then i tought "why not start making house music? cuz house music, that's what i realy like. So why not becoming i DJ?"

So i was thinking of buying a DJ controller. For those who knows a lot about this, the "Vestax VCI 300 MIDI controller" looks realy nice to me, but is quite expensive (750 euros), and my budget is not quite big. If i can't have that one, i was thinking of the "Reloop Digital Jockey 2 Master EDT", which costs 400 euros, which is still expensive.

My goal is to be a great mixer and to make my own house music songs. and probably also DJing at parties, bars and clubs etc.

Are there any DJ's between you guys? or people who have some knowledge or experience with this?

Hey man I DJ myself. If you wanna go the controller route I would get something like the Behringer BCD 3000. It's only about $200 which is maybe 150 euros and is very good for beginners. I would also recommend using either Traktor Pro or Serato for the actual programs as they're pretty much the industry standard, and they're excellent programs.

yeah, but still, i'm quit ambitious. My budget is like 400 euros. I think i'm still going for the reloop digital jockey 2 master EDT (it has the Traktor LE included), because it's quite good, not too newbie and yet not an overkill. if i start with a cheap one, it won't have a soundcart. the reloop is also expandable, so i can start with a single midi controller and maybe attach cd players to it, so i can mix cd's.

but a dj friend informed me that as a dj, you're not taken seriously with a digital dj controller. they only take dj controllers with cd's serious. is that true?

The reason why I recommended you the Behringer BCD 3000 is because it's got a built-in soundcard and it comes with Traktor LE full version so thats already a good 500-600 you're saving right there for a program and a soundcard. But what your friend is saying is correct. What I would do if you can't invest a lot of money though is get whatever controller you're going to get, soundcard if you need one and two crappy cd players. But honestly when it comes to DJing a tight budget like that won't get you out of your bedroom. I would recommend saving more money, getting some quality turntables or CDJs, a decent two channel mixer and a legit program which has timecode vinyls.

I'm a DJ. The most basic advice I give anyone trying to be a DJ is that it can get expensive, and there are always hidden costs. You can become a bedroom DJ fairly cheap: Pickup a controller, laptop, serato/torq/traktor etc. But you want to play at parties you say? Gotta have speakers, laptop speakers won't cut it. You need some good headphones too. If you want to become a legitimate mobile DJ that makes money, you need lights as well. Depends what your goals are.

You said you want to make beats and DJ. Personally, I would start off with just one and get good at that first. Being a good DJ and being able to beat-match, transition, scratch, etc takes years of practice (although if you use software to do all of your transitions you don't need nearly as much practice, just hope you don't ever have to play on a pair of decks, because you will be lost). I have friends that make beats, and they spend countless hours doing that as well. I, personally don't have enough time to keep up my DJ abilities and create new beats all the time, although it is a fun hobby once in awhile. As someone else said above, the NS7 is a good controller if that is the route you want to go. Good luck

Im a guitar guy myself ...... but im interested in creating my own house and electro music .
I told my mate who makes a living from producing his own music and he gave me a copy of Flstudios 9 . He said its got pretty much everything you want / need and anything you don't have you can download. Its fxcking complex shit too use but its better than spending all of my money on Boards that i have no clue on how to use.
So yeah if your in the situation that im in i would go for the mega cheap road and download fl studios.

I wish it was easier than playing the guitar :(

I know it costs a lot of money. Since may i've been checking this site http://www.musicstore.de/en_EN/GBP/DJ/cat-DJ from the music store in Cologne. It sells almost everything. I've searched a lot on youtube too, looking how it works and which one works the best.

the reloop digital jockey 2 interface EDT (traktor le included) still looks interesting to me. it looks pretty decent, and is not too expensive (300 euros).

i think i'll start with this one, then later, when i'm getting much better at mixing and stuff, i'm going to spare money, to buy mixing stations who can work with cd's and digital as well, with additional mixers, so i might work in clubs as well.

Can you use your digital controller and traktor programm to make new music (like mixing an old disco or soul song to a new mixed house song)? or do you need a special programm for that?

Ever heard of Final Scratch? You use real decks and can play real vinyl on the decks but also you can hook up a laptop and play all your MP3's on the decks as well. All you do is pop a timecoded record on the deck(s) and through the Final Scratch controller thingy it syncronises the MP3's on your laptop to the dummy record(s) on the deck(s). So you get hands on vinyl control over your MP3's.

Personally I use Serato SL1 with 2 CD decks and a laptop for my mobile gigs. You can use vinyl if you prefer, most do with Serato, I just got sick of hauling the big decks so I switched to the smaller CDJs.

Anyway, if you go this route, you can get by with a couple decks (CD, or vinyl, your choice) a laptop (anything with 2 gigs or more will suffice generally, the more the better), a mixer, headphones, laptop stand (you can make your own and save some money) and of course some kind of speakers for you mixing/recording. You need the interface device to hook up your laptop to your mixer/decks, the Serato SL1 costs around $400 used on ebay, but with all of this, you can create/record custom mixes, hook up external midi devices for your beats and you are ready to play at most clubs since Serato is considered the standard in the majority of clubs (in the US at least).
