I can kill people effectively. I'm also a good writer, and once I get back to college I see it becoming something I'm not only good at, but something where I'm great.

I've been through the all thread and happily discovered that Madals was good at basketball, Chief plays the guitar and compose crazy songs, Surielx is a great volley ball player, Trixsta is a beast at Age of Empire (I'm jealous of this one I confess), Hobbit is good at billiard, Fisher makes girls cry while playing the piano, ... Little by little I started to ask myself what I was good at... No answer was coming to my mind.

This post killed me... LOL

Professionally Drafted Baseball Player
Deans List in College at 15
Built a Multi-Million Dollar Real Estate Investment Firm by 21
First profitable business at age 9 in web design I made 4 sites for local businesses that summer and earned just over $1000 (which I thought was BIG money, lol)
Used half of my website income to fund a new model a couple years later, where I essentially arbitraged pokemon cards, I made almost $5,000 doing this for a few months.
At 17 I decided I cared about dating and was in a relationship with my high schools cheer captain 2 weeks later.
I've never joined any sport association when I was young, I've never learned to play any instruments, I've never really learned to draw, paint or anything like that... Yet, I love all these stuff. My parents were just too busy working to take me to that kind of activities. I'm not even blaming them for that. What did I do in high school? nothing. No art, no sports, no girls... I only got my fist girl friend at 18... Speaking about school, I've always been a pretty decent student. I was one of the bests in my high school but to be honest the general level was low. Today, I'm in one of the top 6 Business School in France and I'm attending the best university of South America for one semester. Not bad, especially since my parents did not even know how to write French when I was little.

I love to learn things, I'm curious and enjoy discovering new fields. I basically learn everything from the Internet nowadays. I've now some skills in graphic design, web design, photography... but not enough to say I'm good at it.

So yeah, I'm a bit embarrassed of admitting that the only thing I can really say I'm good at is languages... I can speak French, Portuguese, Spanish and English.

What am I waiting for? I'm going to prepare a list of hobbies/activities I want to be good at and smash them. It perfectly matches the goal of my journey.

The thing that makes a man useful in life is specialization - being good at something!

I don't see why you feel bad. You're good at something. Not many people are fluent in 4 languages. I barely know 2.

It's important to KNOW that you're good at something when you're actually good at it.

If you're really good at something, you'd be reminded of this over, over, and over again. The idea is to accept it, enjoy it, and work to get better at it.

By the way, we might think of our own abilities as a specializations but others will often characterize us through our skills. So if you're a guitar player, they don't just see you as a 'guitar player'; they perceive you as an entertainer, as somebody fun, emotional. A good student will be perceived as hard working, driven, well organized, focused, etc . . . No matter what that 'thing' is, there are attributes for being good at it beyond the actual specialization that ATTRACT others to you.

I once knew a D student who was accepted to Harvard . . . he was an Olympic team member at age 16! Harvard isn't best known for their athletic programs. They didn't accept this guy for his wrestling skills. They accepted him because they were ATTRACTED to the attributes that made him a 16 year old Olympian. If interested enough in anything, he will excel at it.

Everybody has a 'way-in' to excellence. This is why the message, "Get good at ANYTHING" is important. The formula for success is pretty much similar cross all endeavors. I once asked a professor at Berkley School of Music if there were any commonalities in his best students/musicians. His answer, "Whether they played because their parents forced them or because they loved it, they all PLAYED ALL THE TIME. . . they practiced ALL THE TIME." - Sounds simple . . . but notice many journals that span over just a few pages in FR? The ratio between those who persist and those who do not is just as lopsided here as it is in the real World.

I played guitar for 10 odd years and only ever got to average joe status at it. I stuck at it this long because it's what I wanted to get good at.
Since reading this post about 6 months ago it reminded me of something someone had told me I was good at but I wasn't all that fussed about because it wasn't that glorious hence desirable.
I started playing the drums 10 months ago and I'm now in a semi professional band earning £400 a gig (between us lol) and i'm still not that fussed! People keep telling me i'm as good as guys who've been playing 10 yrs.
Point is with this knowledge my self confidence and self worth has exploded when approaching women in general - but without focusing on getting really good at something I have a natural ability for rather that something I wanted to get good at- I still wouldn't be good at anything.

In addition to the above:

This rule reduces achievement to quantity: the secret to becoming great is to do a great amount of work. What Hamming emphasizes, however, is that quantity alone is not sufficient. (“I’ve often wondered why so many of my good friends at Bell Labs who worked as hard or harder than I did, didn’t have so much to show for it,” he asks at one point in his speech.) Those 10,000 hours have to be invested in the right things, and as the disjointed nature of Hamming’s talk underscores, the question of what are the right things is slippery and near impossible to nail down with confidence.

In other words, becoming excellent is not the result of a well-behaved tallying of hours, it instead emerges out of a swamp of roiling ambiguity. If you’re not ready for this reality, he implies, you’re unlikely to last long on a path toward greatness.

I'm damn good at exploiting opportunities when they come my way, and I'll continue to be.

What's something you're really good at? If you're not good at anything, get good at something.

I'm good at playing the guitar. And I mean like really good.

Don't tell me something you're only kinda good at. Tell me what you're actually good at. Something that makes you confident and proud.

If you don't have an answer, you know what you must do. GO GET GOOD AT SOMETHING. Stop being a worthless sack of shit.
I'd like to see some video Chief, message me a link if you ever get the chance.

Guitar Here as well.

I was really good at hockey before i blew my knee. After that i learned to play the guitar, playing 2-8 hours a day (had to fill my time with something).

So guitar and pretty good singing voice too.
