If you're beyond 20 and you still don't have anything that you're particularly good at, it will be extremely difficult for you to pick something up now and excel at it.

And although I'm not sure if this is what Chief had in mind, 'being good' at something means that you are BETTER than others. All of this wishy washy, in your head stuff, "I'm really good and I know it," is about as impressive as a mom complimenting her 200 lb daughter's attractive qualities.

If you ARE good, you are a Gold medalist in the "State Chemistry Championships"
If you ARE good, then your band won the Holiday "Battle of the Bands".
If you ARE good, then you are on the Dean's List.
If you ARE good, you'd be competing in the xBox World Championships.

Ive gone to Video Game tournaments (some pretty hot nerds there I'll admit)

Also have DJed for some parties.
Im proud of myself, if not for pickup, then those two things.

Difficult, but not impossible. Most of the successful pick up artists you hear about didn't start until several years into their twenties.

So, is nobody here really good at anything, then?

Or is this motivation to get better?
I've competed in tournaments for billiards and I'm set to graduate Magna Cum Laude. I know Trixsta was the best player at Age of Empires in the UK. I don't think saying "nobody here is good" is the point.
Right. All I'm saying is I don't agree that those who haven't competed in tournaments or been nationally recognized for any achievements or skills are not 'good' at anything.

No . . .

The guys who are good at some things are good at some things.

The guys suck at everything, suck at everything.

Above all, the guys who stare at the mirror and try to convince themselves and others that they're special while they're far below average in everything that they do are pretty much worthless to the World around them. If they were cows, we'd at least be able to steak them. However, they're human beings so they merely eat up resources and suck life energy from those around them.

In regards to a 'cut off age'. I arbitrarily picked age 20 but here's the way of the World:

Positive habits that are required for excellence are learned at a young age. Goal setting, strategy, scheduling, people skills, communication skills, patience, etc . . .ever see anybody 20+ SHIFT his personality? All these attributes are what make a personality . . . So YES! People can pick up new things at age 80 and become World CHAMPIONS! . . . but I bet that those who can and do these things have a history of excellence.

Chief is right . . . get going! Get good at something! It's never too late . . . but the more you wait . . . well, it's one less day of progress right?

I know a few crazy ass backwards hermit monks who seldom out to the World let alone enter 'contests'. The ones who write beautiful poetry are still RECOGNIZED for poetry. Those who draw incredible art are still RECOGNIZED for their talents.

This reminds me of a buddy who thought had talent for 'comedy'. He had two choices. He could remain the hermit and continue to laugh at his jokes until old age or he could go to open mic and see if his comedic talents were fantasy or reality.

His first show was a bomb. Hell, I was nervous for him. His comedy sucked. This was his reality at that moment.

Now he had a few more choices. He could go back to his cave and lie to himself, "Those idiots don't know comedy" . . . or he could end it with, "I suck at comedy" . . . or he could practice, practice, and practice and go back to open mic.

He chose the latter. And within a few tries, managed to burst the entire building into gut wrenching laughter. And although busy with his professional life, he still goes to open mic to make people laugh. Let me tell you something though, this guy . . . he has a history of excellence.

I'm very good in history, pretty good in languages, know a lot about cultures, I have a great body with a bit of fitness and I'm learning to become a great DJ. :)
Apart from that, there are even more things I'm not good at, but that just makes me more human.

Don't get insecure if people here tell you if you are only good at something if you're better than the others; don't fool yourself, there will always be someone who's better. Look at and judge your own qualities.

I think I misunderstood yours and Hobbit's points. It makes more sense to me now, though.

Some people are more inclined to succeed based on early life experiences and learning through childhood. Others took a wrong turn somewhere, or missed some of those experiences, and really don't excel at anything at all, or are talent-challenged. But the more they lie to themselves that they are good at some things when they are not, the more they are just stunting the growth of their skills with the delusion that they are already good enough.

The sooner you realize you need to improve, the sooner you can start improving.

I win talent shows with my music now. The prizes are usually really gay like an alarm clock or a photo album but its still so worth it. However, just like your comedian friend used to suck, my band efforts in high school were absolutely horrific. At our HS battle of the bands our singer was boo'd offstage. It wasn't just his fault, though. As the band leader I didn't do everything that was necessary to put together a performable band. I kept at it and made improvements over time.

I'm also getting pretty good at competitive pokemon battling :P Competitive pokemon battling is harder than it seems! But lately I've been able to maintain my ladder score above 1000, which is just better than average hehe

If anyone wants to battle me then download the thing at www.pokemon-online.eu and set up your team. YEAH I WASN'T KIDDING

Im soon set to break the Deadlift, 75kg, T3(18/19) british and maybe world record.

I think its around 225. i got 170kg at the county singles and the british event is in 6weeks, go for 200kg. then got 6months to get 227.5kg.

only been deadlifting for 3months but training hella hard. I don't know if it counts as 'good' but the piece i directed, acted and wrote for media btech class was called "2nd best pieces" he'd ever marked but the theres all those TV shows, films etc which out weighs my stuff :P

filmmaking/ tv show making is what i wanna do btw :D

Guess Chief is wondering if anyone is passionate about anything, passion breeds good qualities in people.

Sports, football, baseball, etc.. you name it.

Oh, and i'm good at business and finance, but that might be because of the school I went too and though I didn't need to study so only time will tell.

Give me a deck of cards and I'm the center of attention.
I can also write some really good songs too.
I should pick up a guitar and start learning how to sing, eh?
