I just graduated college with a degree in social services addictions and just got hired on at my interning position as a full time chemical dependency counselor... I have my reasons for doing what i do and i am ok with that part.....

My question to you fellas is how do i go pua about this.. there are many factor to consider like, if i go out in my town i am worried about running into a client. or when a girl asked what i do for a living i hate saying i am a chemical dep counselor with a fucking beer in my hand... ( i usually try to say something goofy like an astronaut or something, but that game can run its course really quick)

Any thoughts on the subject?

Hey

I am kinda new here but what you have doesn't sound very bad ?

Considering you have a job your 1+ from guys who don't and when she asks just say i am a counselor.

She may not ask into it but when she does you just tell her chemical dependency. Be proud of what you do.

*put the beer down when you talk*

If you see a client just talk to them normally perhaps ? Its not like your going to pick up your client. you are allowed to be seen as "having a life" Tell them a joke, make them smile. You might even get that social boss status or whatever the word is from them hanging around you.

"Put the beer down when you talk" this one i didn't even think of but i feel more comfortable with the whole idea just by thinking about this. something about holding a beer saying i'm a drug and alcohol counselor just didnt sit right with me. Thanks buddy

I was kind of struggling with the deangelo method, always playful and never really giving a straight answer, his stuff has worked wonders for me so i was looking into that alot. I guess i could stray a little bit.

Great advice by m9212.

The great thing about interesting jobs (even ones that conflict with your actions) is that it gives your life another dimension.

There is a fine line to hypocrisy, and I think you are worried about it in more of a negative way than you should. I think talking about chemical dependency while being able to control your own situation (assuming you have it under control) is fascinating.

- It creates interest and conversation. This is what everybody wants: shit to talk about. This gives you the opportunity to be interesting.
- I would personally use it as a stepping-stone to DHV about living a balanced, controlled life. Men and women respect balance and control and it makes you look more alpha as a result.

The only risk would be if you got obliterated and sloppy, in which case, you will be judged on a much harder scale. But I assume this won't be the case.

Take it in stride man, its an interesting gig.

I am also in the same boat. I am an acupuncturist and was always in fear of seeing one of my patients and what they would think or how they would react to me in a social setting. I then realized the following:

1) having a beer or even smoking a cigarette is okay for you if you are not addicted. You can show moderation and self-control and this is a good thing to show your patients. At the same time if they have a real chemical dep. then they shouldn't be in a club/bar anyway so I think they would try to avoid you.

2) Your job adds value to who you are. You are helping people that are in a difficult place and you have to be emotionally stable to do this. I would embrace this aspect of who you are and be proud of it. You can use it later on to explain why you chose it and that can show that you are a man who makes decisions for himself and is clear in his motivations. The only way that this could be bad is if the girl has a Chemical dep. and in that case you probably do not want to get involved until she has worked on herself or if you are embarrassed by your job. Be proud of your self that you are doing a job that is for the greater good. This is part of being an alpha male.

Cheers
