I am having the same problem too, i was transfered and i m an international student, i have small social circle and realized things are different and harder. I dont have much friends here and i feel like people are timid intimidated of me becuase i am kinda tall and i have long hairs. I remember that I went to this Hurricane Sandy relief effort in Staten Island just a few weeks ago, and I could've passed on the chance. But I didn't. There were other times when I went to the New York Comic Con 2012, or traveled to Bermuda on a cruise ship two years ago. Even if it's daily routine shit, like going to the grocery store or staying at home, try and make everything an adventure!
