Most girls are disgusted by them, and would be completely turned off if you told them you played them a lot. Its about as unattractive as it gets.
News to me. I think the women just don't play the puerile adolescent male guns-a-blazing big boobs games so much. Let's put it this way: if a game probably wouldn't survive a Feminist deconstruction, maybe it's not general purpose conversational material for the ladies. In contrast, my brainy sister has always been partial to The Sims, and my not-as-brainy sister likes the simpler games like Snood where you shoot marbles out of a cannon at stuff. Both grew up with a SuperNintendo and a Mac. A lot of the Wii casual games seem more gender balanced, because they can be things like bowling, racket sports, or driving go karts.
You also gotta decide your audience and who you want to hang out with. My dorm in college was a castle, with an armorer in the basement. It had a group of nerdy people called CLRries, short for the "Central Living Room" they usually hung out in. The joke was they only talked about 3 things at dinner: sex, computers, and D&D. They screwed like rabbits. I was never a CLRrie myself but I was friendly with them. Over the years I did try to get up with 2 of 'em, but for some reason it didn't go anywhere. Go figure.
