| I think most people look at PUA training the wrong way . EVERYTHING you're learning is to, at some point, become a natural at it. The goal is to ooze confidence, and know what to say when, without having to think about it.
I hate to say this but practice makes perfect. The way the human mind works is that when you repeat something that is of competitive nature, for example, a tennis match, after repeating the same mistake 3 times, on the fourth you will ANTICIPATE what happens next and do something about it, such as move back to get better contact on the tennis ball. I always like to compare the game to poker, my two loves. You don't play the cards, you play the players. you get inside their head. the only way you know or anticipate their play is by previous experiences with similar situations or by the players actions. Now if your playing an experienced player, they will be doing the same thing to you. Think about an HB who has had AFCs throw themselves a her. The only way to counter this is to do the unexpected, such as bluff or check raise. the equivalent in the pua world would be a neg or false disqualifiers.
Getting back on topic: The most effective way we gain intelligence is by learning from experiences first hand. Mistakes teach us even more by really slapping us across the face. I like to look back on a night and go over what I did well, not so well, and wrong, and what can be done to improve on that next time. If you just get embarrassed at yourself and force yourself to forget it, not only will you will learn that much slower, but that scar can come back and haunt you in many subconscious forms such as fear of rejection, insecurities or anti-confidence (I can't think of an antonym for confidence)
A routine or a canned line was developed by someone who has realized 'this is effective'. These lines and routines and gambits have been written by people who are at certain levels of practice or naturalness or whatever you want to call it. But, to get the most 'effectiveness' out of line, it has to come out naturally, for example, in a specific scenerio or anticipation of a certain events which have worked before. As we practice, we will naturally realize 'oh I've been in a similar situation before, i said [something] ill just use a slight improvement of what was slightly effective last time'
If I was to go back in time and stop myself from ever getting into the game, my game would be developing and x-amount slower than it is now just from day to day hit and miss scenerios,. By learning from people who are at a higher 'level' of game, I have to say that I'm not sure if I would have ever reached this 'level' in this lifetime.
I don't know if I'm making any sense to you guys, but this makes complete sense to me. The goal is to be natural with all available tactics in our arsenal; a canned opener is just a standard issue pistol. The heavy weapons you pickup on the battle field are the ones that help you win battles. When you lean back and let the battles come to you, that is when you start winning wars. The beauty of it is that this is a means without an end. There is no end, you can only keep improving. Crossing over the naturalness wall is just another stepping stone.
