Why do Aussie girls hate being called knackers?

So ive been calling a few girls knackers lately. These are women I know fairly well and are not necessarily intersted in me (work mates and close friends). I have noticed that when I first call them knackers, they bounce me around for it!

Can any aussie blokes explain this? I'm guessing it's the ultimate neg because i'm essentially calling them a guy .....
