i have a theory that we are all trying to sell our personal perceptions to each other in the hope that someone can see the world through our eyes. we also like to see the world through another's eyes. It makes us feel that we are sharing this experience of life. think about people at a music concert they are all feeling the lyrics and find some sort of solace with the song and artist. The crowd looks like they are all sharing the feeling when you see them jump in time with the music, but in actuality every one is feeling something different. They are in fact delusional, if you read the lyrics of the song there are a lot of explanatory gaps that can be interpreted any which way. none of these people can ever be on the same wave length 100%, but the delusion makes them feel that they are not alone in this world.

I'm not sure completely what your saying and how it relates to solipsism exactly.

Solipsism is the philosophical thesis that only one's own mind's existence is certain - the world and everyone else is a mere delusion. I think it's fair to say that we try to "sell" (maybe a better word to use is project) certain images of ourselves to others that may or may not be who we actually are but this does not entail Solipsism.

If you believe in Solipsism then why are you on a pua forum, girls don't exist.
Neither do I incidentally.

I'll let Schopenhauer finish this one off...
Quote:
Solipsism "as a serious conviction [...] could be found only in a madhouse: as such it would then need not so much a refutation as a cure.”

maybe Solipsism is the wrong word to define this theory. i don't doubt that the people around me are real or the world. What im trying to say is that we are living on the same planet, but in differnet worlds of perception ( like parrallel universe). this might be why we like to share things especially our perceptions to feel that we are not alone.

i like to call it selling a perception because a person can project what they see all they want, but if no one buys it no one internalises it and can't enter that world (or the delusion of it because we are alone unless we can literally see the world through someone elses eyes).

the example about the concert is to ask, how does the artist sell so many differnt perceptions to so many people at one time to create the illusion that they are all together in the one place. its definetely not the lyrics. Adolf hitler was a phenomenal speaker , but he was also very passionate. Micheal jackson looks like he is really feeling his music when he peformed. is it just the vibe?

maybe a better word is qualia?- i dont know, help me out here (don't know much about philosphy)

A fun thesis Solipsism is. Think about it, you mind is alone and one, and it creates an ilusion of a world that is so logical you can never know, if this is your hidden world that you create that typed this, or is it realy you as just a bilogical machine with other people just like you, or even something in the middle.
There are more thesis involving you as a god etc but not going into that.

I think, the mad solipsists may be suffering from neurological disease comming from a stong egocentrism.

And to the topic starter, yes its true but dont get too mystical.

I'm not going to sit there and argue about solipsism as I'm not educated at all in it.

Those who need people to see their perception lack self-confidence, those who have it don't need people to see their perception. Sorry bro, but when I try and teach people my perception it is to help them not so they can see the world through my eyes.... I don't care if you want to live your life in your perception I just try and help them realize the world is bigger than your own personal perception.

I do agree that no one wants to be left alone! We all want company but that doesn't mean we need the world to see things our way that is more narcissistic.... Those who are confident don't need the world to bend to them, that is a low self-esteem issue.

Note: I had a buddy who was in a decent size and somewhat well known band in the Mountain West area, when someone(happened a lot) asked him what his song was about and say it is about this and this and this right? He would say EXACTLY! Even if it had nothing to do with the actual song's history. He didn't need people to have his perception of the song, he loved the fact we all have our own perception and the song meant something to them differently. In other words he didn't need to sell his perception, the song had can and should have it's own meaning to each of us.

My thoughts are we aren't in need of people needing to see our perception unless we are out to get approval, are being victims, or whatever, you just need to be confident in who you are and you don't tend to give a fuck about all that shit. The ego needs that NOT a self-confident person.

Peace and Love,

Vic

Yo Vic,

can it be narcissism when the sharing of perceptions is transactional not unilateral? i did write " we also like to see the world through another's eyes. It makes us feel that we are sharing this experience of life."
