Lines? Having something prepared like a script. Waiting for your cue so you can make public what you’ve worked on relentlessly. I can see how this would create feelings of anxiety especially if the script was written, edited, reedited and rehearsed to perfection. A good editor uses an open-mind to expose weaknesses, sentences are cropped to block heckles or prompt weak opposing arguments (straw man approach). The question is just an open ended ruse which is really a cue to a predictable answer. The answer is a cue again, the process starts again, but in the mean time the language is delving deeper into the psyche to build trust. The mere exposure effect- just by being around something familiar we start to feel safer and safer. If this is done properly the subject should follow the path that leads to appetitive consequences, but some people will knowingly follow a path to aversive consequences. This is when the student becomes the teacher and the element of surprise is no longer unilateral it’s transactional. Surprise is important- without surprise no one learns and the person will block consequences unconsciously. Think about a time when you watched a comedy all over again it’s not the same is it? Think about a time when you watched a b-grade comedy or thriller and all the lines were predictable. Did you laugh or get scared or did you just sit there with a blank expression on your face? You probably just ignored it or talked over the top of it.


Scripts? Is it better to remember the main points of the script rather than word for word recital? Bad actors sound like they are reading. Writing is like being able to travel back in time and actually use the “what if” scenarios- that’s what proof reading is.
We come up with automatic responses naturally; it’s what a person’s personality is made up of. Everyone has their own style, the more unique and witty the better, but the style has to tap into another’s network of association. Otherwise the script is not processed to a deeper level (depth of processing theory). There is no point in writing this if you’re not on the same wave length. Unless you are and this understanding is deep within your subconscious, but for personal reasons you are blocking it in anticipation (element of surprise). We are probably turning something that should be automatic into something complicated. How about we just relax a little and let nature take its course? We can tell each other that it’s nature, but we will never really know if someone is just acting the whole time.
