But how do you think it would play out if you sent a text to the HB you were going to go out with, but wrote it like you were sending it to a friend of yours. Say something like "dude, shes so cute, and wicked smart. I hope things go well, cuz shes just so down to earth"
Something to that effect.

First off, even if you said that directly to her face it would be AFC. Don't do that. Ever.

However, your whole idea of a fake text is not the worst idea to be honest. Just change the text to something else. A jealousy plot perhaps? "Hey sweetie! Sorry, I have so much stuff to do, but can we move it til next friday?"

... Then of course (preferably after she has replied) you tell her the text was meant for "someone else". This will keep her wondering "Who was that he was talking to?", "What is he moving until next friday?" and so on.

The fake text message I wrote above was completely improvised right now, so don't use it. Come up with something similar. Something that sounds like YOU.

I personally think that line is trash both lines 1 and 2... but I think the threadstarters idea would work but he needs more of a clever line to say.. something more witty... I might come back and lay a good line!
