So i was out with friends at a bar last night and I spotted an old friend of mine as she was sitting with her friends. We talked a bit and i asked her if she was still with this guy she was dating a while ago and she answered that she wasn't. I took the opportunity and said that I had a new phone and told her to put her number in my phone. Now I don't know on how to text her beacause it just seems random out of the blue that a guy who she sees once in a few months (thats me) all of the sudden texts her. I would like some advice on how to text her and build attraction with her without making it wierd. Keep in mind we aren't the best friends in the world and i see her once in a while and thats it. Any advice guys?

If you're seriously worried about the randomness of it AFTER she gave you her number then I worry for you.

She's logically just given you a reason to text or call but all you're worried about is how it would look? Why do you seriously care how it would look, firstly? You hardly ever talk to her. And secondly: Under what context did she give you her number? I mean, you asked if she had a boyfriend, right? And she said no, right? Then she gave you her number, right?

What is it exactly you're seeking as a the obstacle? Maybe you've left it out of the OP? I don't see it.

yeah dude, you need more practice in general. dont worry too much right now, just keep messing up and learning because it is probably too late now anyway.

i would be more than happy to interrupt her out of the blue. because if she answers that is her showing at least a little bit of interest in you. right?

my rule of thumb is dont have long conversations over text. keep it short and simple with a goal in mind to get a date set up. then 2 or 3 hours before that date send a text to make sure. i usually say "hey, i could be a few minutes late - but i'll be at ___ tonight " this doesnt make you look like a doofuc by saying "are we still hanging out?" and sounding all needy.

also asking "what does your schedule look like ?" rather than "are you free friday?" because that is a 1 in 7 chance
