Can open fine, how ever afterwards I sometimes manage to run out of things to say,

Should the conversation be constant?

is it bad having any silence at any time..

That happens because you are thinking too much, Does it happen with your friends as well? No, right? You are too nervous and that is one of the reason why you run out of things to say. There are lots of things you can do so don't worry so much about it just let it flow.
Remember to speak slowly and take your time to think, there is nothing wrong witht that.
