Met a girl in a bar on Friday - HB9 easy - talked to her a bit, had great game going. Some guy tried butting in and I totally made him look stupid and slink away, had her paying attention to only me. She loved it "You handled that awesome!" Then ignored her for a bit and when she left she gave me a hug, said "You smell great! Don't change that cologne!" and she gave me her card.

so I emailed her yesterday (card only had her work number) - she's a lobbyist for ocean advocacy, I'm a teacher in an inner city high school. Nancy is a city in France - I lived there for 8 years to give some context. I wrote this:

So not only had I never met a Nancy before Friday night, ocean advocate was a first as well. hope your Monday back at work was better than mine. Building the future at a DC high school can be challenging sometimes...anyway, I have this rule about cute girls giving me their cards which includes writing to them especially if they are nice and interesting to talk with Would love to get together and talk more about saving the world, or more French geography, or whatever - bet we can find something interesting to do/talk about... write me back here or send me a text at xxx and we can figure something out.
and today she wrote back saying

"Hi Mark,

It was nice to meet you on Friday, too. I can't believe that you had
never met a Nancy before! That seems impossible! Ocean Advocate I can
believe, but never a Nancy!?

So this is kind of awkward, but my ex-boyfriend has recently come back
into my life and we're going to try to make another go of it. I'm
sorry. You seem like a really great guy, and under any other
circumstances I'd love to hang out, but I want to give this thing with
my ex a real chance.

Any ideas?

I'm stumped cause she seemed like a pretty smart girl, but is also a HB so obviously her thinking patterns are HB-like.

Not sure if I have any recourse at all - but it seems pretty confusing.

so....my dad used to have me in his phone under the alias: ICE. I was looking through his phone and saw that and said "Dad, why am I 'ICE'?" and he explained that it was for "in case of emergency". You can put me in yours like that if you want too I'd probably take your call if things didn't work out vive l'océan!
