“Being Interesting”





That repetitive word

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about those two golden words. “Being” and “Interesting” are two words many of us in this field seem to be aiming to conquer. In many ways we use others words to hide away these two. How, you may ask? One such example is demonstrating value. A higher value than the target. Proving we are more interesting than her. Therefore attracting interest from others is what makes the individual interesting.



What makes you interesting?

Another aspect of interest is the interest we create for ourselves. It’s fascinating to think how many of us ask what DHV stories to use. Most of us (me included) have this never ending fear our story won’t be interesting. How many people ask for interesting stories online nowadays on a daily amount? It’s amazing how a lot of us think you HAVE To present yourself as a super hero figure to DHV. Not true! Remember we’re all human! Crazy, silly or over the top stories don’t work unless you’re a great liar or at least a talented solid actor. Simplicity however is key. Talk about that major party you were at recently, or that day you helped a lost child in a supermarket find his/her way back to his/her parents. Sometimes a DLV story can work if you present it correctly. For example, yesterday I was in a shopping centre and walked into and used the female toilet without even realising it. I used this to my advantage several minutes later by expressing to two HBs how I had just embarrassed myself but what made them like me was I laughed at myself. I showed a sense of humour and showed I’m not intimidated or insecure to share my silly or embarrassing moments.



Different types of interest

What makes me interesting in my opinion? Put simply my uniqueness or weirdness. I am truly once I get past my shynessJ. Last night for example I started laughing at a bottle of coke. Don’t ask me why. I couldn’t stop once the group were looking at me. It didn’t matter. They laughed at my simplicity. No doubt we all are weird. As psychologists say ‘define what’s “normal”’. What makes you interesting? Is it your looks? Your sense of humour? Your hobbies? Your drive for adventure? Your occupation? Your drive for true love? Whatever it is, you ARE interesting. It’s how you present yourself that takes away that interest. For example telling someone about your day can interest them. Whether you know them or they are a stranger. Just develop the story or DHV in a planned way. People like to hear and talk about the lives of others. We learn something from others. I guess you could call it “gossip”. Talking about simple demonstrations of value can capture somebody’s attention. But a long extended build up to how you walked into the ladies toilet will not be. Keep stories brief, concise and to the point.



Demonstrating Higher Value

Ultimately “being interesting” is not so hard. For example, turtles are the only creature that can breathe through their ass. Did you know that? Whether you did or not doesn’t matter but I bet you found it interesting. Talking about how you saved a life for 90 minutes is not interesting. Talking about or mentioning how you saved a life for ten minutes is! DHV isn’t that hard. Tell them what you did for your pet or how you helped your girlfriend. Just be comfortable with what your saying and most importantly “be interesting”.
