and after that the conversation quickly reverts to Chinese and I feel like a tool standing there and understanding nothing, so I go to my room. 4. Come up with something else to do (with your buddies, for example) during "Chinese dinner night."

There is so much cool stuff you can learn from dating a person of a different ethnicity. Embrace that and you'll probably have a lot of fun at these kinds of events. And stop worrying about looking like an idiot... I can almost guarantee it is all in your head.
