attraction- this stage consists of two or more people meeting each other and experiencing a biological and emotional attraction.

Values fitting- after attraction, the parties start moving towards commitment, but first they decide if values are in line. This stage includes addition, reduction, and changing of values to move closer to commitment.

Commitment- this stage usually consists of one sign of commitment- this could be a conversation, a proposal to get married, moving in together, or something similar. Basically the parties make a verbally or nonverabally commitment to merge life paths.

assesment- with every relationship, people are constantly assessing the cost verse benefit. Parties take everything they know, feel, believe, and perceived outcome into account and make a decision to stop or continue.

Recommitment or break up- this stage follows reassessment. If the parties believe the relationship costs more than it is worth, they break up. If the parties believe they receive value front he relationship there will be another commitment moment.
