my homeboy`s girl used to give him shit about kicking it with the guys too. so what he did was invite her to kick it with us. but he made sure to invite her when we were doing "boring" shit like watching sports, video games, recording music. that way she is bored the entire time. now she doesnt mind him going out

Well this here is where you went wrong.

"I'm going to be spending more time with my friends"; to her, this translates into: "I'm going to be spending less time with you"=>"we're taking a step back in this relationship"

That's why she freaked out.

Don't tell her what you will be doing; when you've already agreed to hang out with the guys, as in a date and time have already been set, and you have to let her know / she asks, just say "I'm hanging out with the boys tonight". You're not asking her for permission- she's not your mother. You're just letting her know.
