Met my current GF a year ago and spent a short amount of time with her, but long enough to spark attraction. Kept in touch online and over the phone for the past year, and am flying to Rotterdam (where she lives) to spend time together.

My concern is mostly about expressing the right amount of initiative and dominance. I will be completely new to Rotterdam, and she will have been there for a year. Naturally, I should allow her to dictate our destinations since she knows the place better, but since I'm a guy and a few years older than her I want to take charge and dictate proceedings, but at the same time I don't want to look like a tool for trying to act dominant in foreign territory.

Should I play it dominant or let her take charge? Maybe a bit of both? I feel like my attitude towards this aspect could make or break the attraction.

Also I've been advised to bring her a gift. Is that good advice or not? My instincts tell me that I would come off as trying to buy her affection.
