Not quite NLP I know, but I hope that the answer to this question may solve a major problem I have.

You know the getting drunk without drinking trick? I do the same thing with passing out. Basically, I begin to feel a little off (this is really nothing serious), but then I begin to concentrate on that and run through all the things that happen when I pass out (in the drinking example it's describing how alcohol hits all the senses). I then start cycling through it faster and faster until I pass out. This isn't a common occurrence, perhaps happens once every 2 years.

Last night it happened as as I was sat on the stairs trying to keep it under control, a bouncer told me to move 'cause I was blocking a fire exit. I told him that I'd pass out if I stood up (NB. the worst thing to do with someone who's light headed is to stand them up). He forced me up, I passed out. Came around back on the floor. Bouncer's mate arrived and they hauled me back up again; I blacked out again. Next thing I know, I'm on the pavement outside, drenched in a cold sweat but within seconds I feel fine*. Generally, cooling me down lots solves it (it was sub-zero last night and v. hot in the club).

Anyhow, does anyone on here with any experience of the drunk without drinking hypnotism have some way to counter it? Focus on cold things?

* although I like to think that I was one helluva sight - death white skin, soaked with a cold sweat and having been dropped outside by bouncers. The first thing I do after coming around is to start sarging a girl. It went pretty well considering!

how do you counter it ? You don't do it. You didn't say anyone was doing it to you.
I'm not sure why you would want to do that. It sounds a little close to dissociation or perhaps psychosis. I never hesitate to suggest going to a doctor about this stuff, worst case is you spend a little money. I've had my share of awkward situations but never left outside unconscious in zero weather at night. Sounds bad to me.

The thing with drinking and hitting the ground then feeling better is because your blood is thinned by alcohol, so your bloodpressure drops.

When you pass out, the heart has to work less, so your body is restabilised.

I can only assume that you manage to slow your heart rate down to the point where your blood pressure drops and you pass out.

It's involuntary self-hypnosis I suspect.

The club (where I passed out) was very hot. As soon as I got outside in the cold, I was fine.
Regarding the doc - they said I was fine and that I shouldn't worry about it (not worrying about it would probably solve it actually!).

But the strange thing is that it only happens after very light drinking.

I will admit that I didn't measure my heart rate, but I'm guessing that it was beating at double time rather than not enough.

Oh that makes more sense then. If your heart is racing that fast what's happening is you're basically flooding your brain with oxygen. The easiest way for the body to destabilise itself is to pass out.

Think about a panic attack. People breath into a paper bag or crisp packet. The reason is to recycle the air to reduce the oxygen and increase the carbon dioxide. This will help stabilise the bodies blood oxygen level. If people don't have a way to recycle their air, they pass out. The brain shuts down conscious activities that caused the anxiety. Then they wake up on the ground.

Makes sense? You could possibly be self inducing an anxiety attack.

Great answer ta! Control the breathing and control the panic then I guess?

It's easier said done.

I know a fair bit about panic attacks because an ex girlfriend used to have then daily. She would sit on the floor or her bed with a paper bag and hyperventilate into it, while I just sat there and gave her other things to think about. I basically just sat there talking about my day. It took her mind away from what it was she was panicking about.
