You can also find that under other name: System theory. Basically everything that is happening around us can be described by math and differential equasions and there is even an area called Modeling and Identifications that is doing that, it's like predicting the future using math, the only problem is, there are too many processes happening around for even supercomputers to perdict everything, so humans usually go with the gut, it's much faster but little less precise ;)
