I wonder which PUA they consulted for the movie because some of the things Steve Carell's character goes over with Ryan Gosling's character goes against some of the PUA communitie's principals.

There was a scene with Gosling explaining to Carell about The Karate Kid. So Carell goes over what he observed Gosling do

1) Always buys a woman a drink, even if she doesn't want one, you insist
2) Never talk yourself, don't engage in boring nightclub banter
3) Put the emphasis on her, let her talk about herself so she can impress you
4) Don't ask her to go home with you, tell her to go home with you
5) She has no choice in the matter
6) Give her the joy of having the opportunity to make sweet, sweet love to you

I thought that at first, but the entire purpose of game is to be a man. Women are looking for men. If you offer to buy a woman a drink, you're an AFC, if you tell a woman you're buying her a drink, you're a man. Rules 2 through 6 are all in one or the other play books
