No doesn't necessarily mean "I'm not interested in you" sometimes it just means "I'm not ready yet". Even though she said no she was in no rush to get away from me and was clearly happy to keep talking. In that extra minute we started talking about something she loved (the opera) and I think hearing me talk about going to the ballet created a little bit more connection and comfort.
