I went to a party, last night, dressed as Banana Man. It was a birthday party in a pub function room and I probably knew about 2% of the people there - to begin with.
Because I'm so stupid and callous, I don't usually have any problems with approaching someone, or making a situation funnier and less tense. But last night was a complex environment for a few reasons and I only managed to chat to three women. I had no chance of failing to close - because I completely failed to open! I'll tell you why. I got drunk! The guys I went with decided to have a little drinky-poo before going to the party. One thing lead to another and a bit of alcohol intemperance set in.
I cracked a few jokes at the bar to a very nice looking girl - but I couldn't hear a damned word she (or anyone else that night) was saying because the music was pumping too loud. I tried to isolate her but I was sluring - the world's biggets turn-off. So all I got was a smile and kiss. And that's how the entire evening carried on: too noisy and too drunk.
I danced like a bewildered geriatric looking for a toilet for a few songs - like I normally do - to a room full of now agog strangers giving me as confused a look as an investagative hen which lead (incredibly) to two girls opening to me onced I'd slouched myself into a seat. But, again, the alcohol fog was too thick and they lost interest.
I very *very* rarely drink, and even rarer, drink to get get drunk. This was a one-off that has taught me a lesson. So don't make the same mistake. You (I) need to be alert and ready to be quick to respond.
Cheers for listening.
Sodality.
