Hey guys, would appreciate your time and advice on a problem I am having. I'll start with a little background.

Understanding me: Back in high school and university I was utterly clueless with girls, couldn't even approach. I was introduced to this material from a university friend and learning a little game got me far enough to land a girlfriend (who mostly chased me bcuz she was, let's say a promiscuous 5), which I dated for years. About a year ago things didn't work out, we broke up. So I've been single for a while again and working on my game, doing a little better than I used to.

The situation: Met a great girl a little over a week ago. Good conversation, effortless, except for my hesitation to make physical contact, although with a couple drinks I manned up and started escalating (only so far as a little arm holding when waiting for a bus and a hug goodbye). Oh and of course got her number. We texted back and forth for the next couple of days, about 3-6 messages from each of us each day. I asked if she was busy on a Sunday, we made plans, went out, was great, I asked if I could walk her home (the subtle way of saying I'd like to hang out at ur place), she said it would've been too much out of my way, but we kissed before parting. In the following days we continued texting at about the same rate, but I realized I really liked this girl so I took more time with my messages. about 3-4days after the first date she was sending some texts which pretty clearly indicated she wanted there to be a date #2. I set it up for 3 days later, she agreed, everything was golden. Keep in mind I have not been on a 2nd date with a girl I actually am into since my relationship.

The problem: A day after confirming the date plans, I was a little buzzed at night and got the GENIUS idea to text this lame fucking attempt at a poem (genius underlined to emphasize stupidity). It showed way too much interest and I'm positive freaked her out. Got no text back, left it alone. 2 days later it's the day of the date, so I send out a quick, "hey we still on? How does 8pm work for you :)?".

The hope: I got a reply and it wasn't bad. She apologized for not texting and said she had been sick and couldn't do our original plan, but offered to meet up for coffee or something (same night, just altered plans), or said we could try to reschedule (which I opted for for a few reasons). I told her she should just rest up for now or else have it turn into a month long cold. So I bailed on the offer for coffee that night but mentioned we will reschedule at a later date. I've chilled out with the texting since then (2 days of nothing) and now I'm wondering how I should get this going again. This is foreign territory for me.

I've literally been on like 3 second dates with girls in my life. Guys with more experience here, please help! First, did I do the right thing postponing our date instead of taking the less exciting date (I thought so since you don't wanna bed a sick girl, and without getting intimate on a 2nd date chances of a relationship goes way down right?) Second, what should I do now? I don't know where this girl's head is at, she's a smart girl, really career-oriented, and I definitely changed the dynamic after showing too much interest. Thanks for any help at all guys!
