I over came my approach anxiety at dances. Before I heard about the Newbie Challenge (which I have not directly done, but will) I used to challenge myself to always talk to the prettiest and the ugliest girl at the party/church/group/whatever. The prettiest girl to get over the anxiety of talking to an alpha (which I most definitely am not) and the ugliest girl to learn just how to talk to people.
I recently went out to eat with a guy who claimed to have slept with over a hundred girls. After watching him flirt with the waitress, I believe him. I later picked up the book by Neil Strauss The Game, and after being on this forum for a while, noticed that whether he was conscious of it or not, he was playing the Mystery Method. I recognized his negging and his accidental insults. He built value by offering her boyfriend a job at his company. He played the alpha by buying me drinks.
I'm not looking to sleep with a hundred women; that's not really me. But I would like to be able to approach any girl I want and figure out why I seem to have a hard time nailing down a second date.
I'm naturally shy and quiet, so years ago I did the same thing every other pick up artist does: I created an alternate ego. I didn't name it, I didn't do anything except just act like I was a confident, in-control guy. Now, I think he needs a name....
