I understand the not being clingy part, but this confused me:

Read it carefully its says buying a woman "affection".... that's the keyword here. What the advice is trying to tell you is not to buy things for a woman in order to get her affection. Guys pay for the dinner, because it shows you have higher value and you can look after yourself and the girl - but never expect anything more than that. By buying her something it willl not get you her affection.

If she doesn't offer to pay half, just come to a polite agreement, that you will both pay half each.
Also i wouldn't advise going for a meal on first dates, unless you have something brilliant planned for afterwards. Or you're some swarvy guy who owns a ship or something.

And it doesn't mean never buy them anything like 'you're never getting anything from me bitch', after you've been dating for a while it's ok to buy them things now and again.
