| Post subject: | how do you respond to "i love you"? |
k so there is these two girls in my classes in college and they will say we love you sometimes, and i honestly have no idea how to respond to it. yesterday on the phone with the target she said i love you before we ended the call and for some reason i said i love you too (i heard her laugh) and i said bye right after. i know, really stupid and i regretted it the millisecond i said it, i only did cause i panicked and didnt know what to say. today i got a text saying "we love you" and i said "you guys make me laugh" cause i couldnt come up with anything better. im really only interested in 1 of the girls, i kino'd a little yesterday in class and she seemed into it. but her friend seems to always be around her. i am a afc, but im learning a lot from this site. what should i do in these situations? |

AHHHHH NOOOOO you idiots!!! There is only one correct response to this: "I love you too." I don't care how you say it, or even if it's semi-convincingly, or muffled like "I Mmmmphfe you too." You have to say it! Trust me it's not worth the pain later if you amuse yourself with a clever response. There is only one answer! |

I establish very early on i would never tell some1 i loved them unless i really ment it.... that normally stops them saying it first |

if its said as if it just fell out with out her thinking you can say in a jokingly disapproving manner: we call that a Freudian slip! |

The same thing happens to me. If its in person or in a phone call, say it back, but laugh a little and maybe roll your eyes just a bit. This way it's in a joking manner. If it's through a text, say it back to her, but throw in a "lol" or a "haha." |

here is my question...how are they saying it? I've had friends say luv ya...just like that and mean it between friends...or "i love you guys" in the context of enjoy hanging out with each other the most as just friends. It's a whole nother story if she says "I love you" looking into your eyes and being dead serious about it. so I guess in general "luv ya" and "I love you" can have two completely different meanings |

yes, the context is very important. i have a few friends who have had serious boyfriends for as long as i've known them and we throw "i love you" and "luv ya" back and forth fairly often, but we're like family. "we love you" is nothing to worry about. "i love you" at the end of a phone call is something couples do. serious couples. also, how old is the girl? theres a lot of guys still in HS here, and HS girls (in my limited experience) say "luv ya" to friends and objects of attraction, but "i love you" isn't thrown around with as much carelessness. |
