Hi everyone, I am a latino person who moved to the united states last year, before i came to the states i didn't know any english at all and so far i think i am doing great. Here is my problem i just started college and i have found myself in many situations in a conversation with HB7 and up, but sometimes when we are on a group of more than 2 or 3 people there are some stuff they talk about that i don't understand because they say it too fast for me. I think this is the part were i get nervous and do whatever everyone one does, if they laugh i laugh and some other stuff they do i do it, i chose to do this because this is the only way i can keep up with the group and the conversation. Another thing that happened to me is yesterday we had a dance club meeting in college and i was talking to this girl i met 4, 5 days before, she seems nice and i would say shes a HB9. the thing is she invited me to go to a meeting with the officers of the club. she offered herself to drive because i didnt know where it was. while we were on the car she started telling me stories about her and stuff but she said some things i did not understand either. the problem is i dont wanna ask her: What? CAN YOU EXPLAIN IT?, I DONT UNDERSTAND... i think if i ask that i would be lowering my value and she would look at me as someone who needs help and can not keep up a conversation..you can guess from this story that when we got to the meeting place same thing happened once again when we were with the whole group any advice is welcomed |

if you dont understand, ask what do you mean.....how can it lower your value asking a valid question..... what she is saying that you dont understand she could bring up an hour later and then you dont know the answser.....and now it seems like your not even paying attention one bit and she may think now that you really are rude and whatever.. ask what do you mean...... i think your thinking to hard is all...and here is another good point.. if she dosnt understand or thinks your weird for not understanding you dont speak very good english why would you want to be with someone like that?? think bout it |

the only way you're gonna learn well is by asking. I still ask questions when I don't understand, and I'm meant to be fluent lol. Asking doesn't lower your value, it's completely understandable that you don't understand some of the things said. When you ask you'll learn quicker, you won't need to ask as much and you'll be a better english speaker. Plus you'll be able to figure out what's going on in the conversation lol |

Draw them into your Frame, make your past life sound as romantic and beautiful as possible. Trigger their fantasy response. A true story that I like to use that triggers this is: My brother and I were in Florence, walking back from a club at 4am. We were hanging out with these two girls we met, and for some reason we decided to climb a crane. Now this crane was right over the Cathedral in Florence, the largest, most extravagant building in the city. Now this crane is over 400 feet high and us four climbed to the very top and chilled there for a while, overlooking the whole city. I draw it out a lot longer and make it seem as wonderful and dangerous as possible. Take them by the hand through your reality, and make them want to be a part of your life. Also, 90% of the time women just talk out their asses so it doesn't really matter if you don't understand everything. |
