Post subject:  Language Barriers

Gentlemen,
I'm in Germany and its great because most women want to talk to me just because I'm different. However this leads to a lot of problems, my skills in the language here are good enough to get me through a day to day activities, but when i have to speak about something specifically I stumble. When I begin to stumble iIstart to lose confidence and by the end of the night I am sitting there like an idiot who cant speak a word of German.

I can only learn German so fast, what should i do to get over this confidence drain so if I do stumble it doesn't ruin my night?

If are you with company, tell them you talk 1 hour in german then 1 hour in english so you both get a chance to practice another language. :)

There is no such thing as a language barrier.

The only two german phrases are:

Du hast schooner awgen
(You hav beautiful eyes)

Ich viel mit deer trinken
(I want to have a drink with you)

Apologies for my bad german spelling

My german is bad but when i use it on german girls they laugh but they enjoy it, they seem to find it cool that im making an effort to try and speak their language. However it maybe different in Germany where people then expect to speak good german

i dont think there's much you can do except continue to learn the language, and continue to get more comfortable speaking german with girls. It's like with AA or anything like that. It just takes practice. Or you could just find places with english speaking ppl :P

Ecstatic, what city are you in? I'm not sure about the rest of Germany, but I just moved to Munich a few months ago, and practically everyone under 35 speaks English. In fact, it's probably one of the best ins with women that I have, because as much as Europeans like to trash North Americans' lack of style, they're fascinated by us :) Of course, closing is much tougher because not speaking German and not understanding German cultural habits leaves me with a way smaller repetoire of things I can do or say. Still, keep working on the German to show you care about the culture (it does impress them), but use your superior English to demonstrate that you're amazing at something they really want to be better in.

Most of the german girls are a bit ashamed for not speaking perfect english. Just start your sarge in english and speak slow and clear, loud... This creates a higher value for you!
