From what I've seen, it really depends on the situation. If you're walking up to people during Daygame or something similar, from my studies so far when you deviate from a question-opener, it mostly shifts to Direct-Game (whereas Question openers are a staple of Indirect-Game).

So you might say something like "Excuse me, but I just had to come over and say that you're the most beautiful woman I've seen today and I just had to talk to you. My name is ______." then continue stacking/gaming.

However, if you're at a party/club/etc, I've seen people (like Mehow, Lyons, and those typs) use very "typical" openers but the way they deliver is just so much better than 99.9% of the people that do.

For example, I've seen Mehow just open with "Woooo!" However, he says it in such a way where he's not a "performance monkey" (his words) but is also a very energetic, lively person so that the set he's opening will feel a very good vibe from him. Then he'll just start up a new thread.

That's what I've seen from my studies so far. I'm interested to see what others say, too. :D

There was also this podcast I remember listening too a while ago at ApproachAnxiety website where this guy (it's on my home computer) I think his last name was Lee, not sure. Anyway, he approached these two hippie chicks during the day in NYC, and although he opened with the question "Do you guys know where they sell any cotton candy?" he followed that up with a very direct "Cause you guys look like you're from the circus" and then he quickly stacked into another routine.

He also mentioned about another Day-Game routine he's done where he was in a store (either jewelry or antique, not sure) but he saw this HB9 walk in and he immediately said "Hey you! Isn't this the most beautiful shell ever?!" or something incredibly similar to that. And that was his opener and totally hooked the girl.

So it really depends.

Well the point of openers is so you don't end up opening with " Let's go fuck" but you could open with a suggestion instead of a direct " command" . it just doesn't work like that

I'm a huge fan of Style (Neil Strauss)'s "Oh My God" openers. Just get into a state of super playfulness and excitement and say something like "Oh my God, you look just like..." or "Oh my God do you work at (whatever)? Oh sorry you just look so similar to (whoever, wherever) i didn't want it to be awkward when I saw you later..." They work, but the problem is matching the energy of the set you're opening. You can easily scare a HB off with too much. Works much better at night. Whatver you use, keep it fun and playful. I personally don't like the question openers either. Just keep working and practicing and meeting people. Be Alpha male. Good luck!

Functional:
What time is it? ect
(I have never seen a successful functional opener)

Situational:
What drink is that?
Is that [celebrity name] over there?
I love this music

No opener:
Oh my God. You look just like my little sister/cousin/niece/etc.
Hi.

Screening:
Are you friendly?
Is there more to you than meets the eye?
I saw you from over there and wanted to see what you were like.

Direct:
I like you. I want to get to know you.
You’re cute / attractive.
You’re the woman here I most want to meet.

ok this is something that isnt fool proof , but i like to use a lot, it plays along cocky funny and is ALL about the delivery.

use the basic as your passing her walking of course, lock eye contact, and as we pass i normally crack a smile if she hasnt by then. about 70% of the time for me atleast, i get a smile back at which point i immediately say, "your welcome". they almost always stop, and will say "im sorry", or "for what" or something along those lines. at which point i respond with "for putting that gorgeous smile on your face."

cheesy i know.

but, i have had real success with it, especially when moving into quick number closes by placing time restraints, etc.
