Hey, I am at university and I study Computer Systems, and when I tell girls that it seems they get the impression that I am a loser just like the other 95% of people on my course... and it seems to be a generalisation that lowers my value (to both guys and girls). Anyone in a similar situation or got any advice on what I should do? I can't really just lie to them... Cheers |

HB-X : "So what do you study" YOU : "Computer Systems [pause] Im the Exeption In The Law of "Those Who Study Computers Are Geeks"..What About You..What are You Studying or are You All Looks No Brains?. Bleh Its hard to work with. and im still AFC so If thats crap..listen to someone more qualified LOL. but it cant hurt to give it a shot. |

I think if you can communicate its something you are passionate about then you'll be fine. If you don't otherwise look like a dork I guess they won't think you are one? |

Or you can answer in a mor vague way. HB: So, what do you study? You: "I want to make the world a better place [or whatever you wanna do]." Or go Cocky & Funny with some "I want to make the world a better place, and feed the hungry, and end all wars" in a typical Ms. Universe contest tone  ~ Nag |

I'm in the same boat with Finance essentially. I either say something witty/obscure like "Well I'm a masochist so I chose Finance," or I tell them promptly that although my career is in finance, my real passions in life lie outside what I do to earn a living (which is true). And don't forget that what we do is actually an ASSET to girls who are not insane*, since it's not too sexy to make little or no money...the key is to show that we're so much more than that. *the minority but there are some out there |

You say you can't lie to them so don't just be a bit more vague about your answer if your embarised about your course or if you think it will lower your value, Or even change what they might think of you before they can HB: So what are you studying? You: Computer Systems, but it sucks cause you automaticly get branded a geek,but ofcourse im an exception.. Ok that isnt that great but you get the idea you can work with something along those lines -Pulse |

Your game should be so tight that what you study shouldnt even matter. Most of that relies on body language and style. |

just say ur studying computer systems so u can be a hacker or something  honestly, if u are embarrassed by the major "computer systems" think of a different name to call it that can give it that badass sorta edge. Or redirect the question in some way using C&F, that way you can build attraction and ur major wont matter when and if u tell her.

Don't feel like you've got make an excuse for what you study. Both of the above examples involve qualifying yourself, which you shouldn't need to do.

If you say what you are studying with out any confidence than of course they are going to look at you like you are a geek. Keep a strong frame, and be proud of what you are studying and it wont be DLV. |

I agree but what i was saying was IF you worry it will be a DLV or if your abit embarissed about it because of this then my idea was a suggestion of what you could do, or ofcourse the other alternative is you could say it like your really proud of what u do and dont give a shit about how others stereotype you by use of body language / tone. -Pulse |

Cheers for the advice guys... what if I said this. Her: what do you study... Me: Have you seen Die Hard 4? Her: yes Me: I study Computer Systems... Its just an idea because it would link me studying computers with the cool guy from Die Hard 4 who saves everyone... |
