Post subject:  I write

I write books. I think this is unique, and if used right, this could be attractive to girls. Any ideas how?

Isn't it enough that it should come up pretty quickly in most conversations? Once she asks, "So what do you do?" you're good to go. You don't need to carry around one of your novels or slip someone your card. That should just be able to come up very simply and naturally in most cases. I write prominently for a local newspaper and also work on stories and plays on the side...I've never had any trouble working that into a conversation effortlessly. Depending on where we are at the time, sometimes there's even a newsstand right by us and I can walk over and pick up an issue and point out my work, which just impresses the hell out of them. You don't need to wear it on your sleeve or anything, but this also isn't something you should be having trouble working in.

Thanks for the thread reference, GE -- I'm 16, so I'm not a proper writer, but I think that as I write as a hobby, I couldn't pull off what you have.

So it comes up when you discuss hobbies instead. Same difference. Just bring it up naturally. Ask her what hobbies she has, or if she's artistic. She'll then ask if you are.

Be prepared to show her your work. ;) If she's interested at all in you she will ask to see it.

I reckon I could tease it out for a while, but I'd need to do it eventually to show I'm not a phony. Thing is, the actual books I've written are heavily abstract and you know, odd. A lot of it is me expressing myself, I think it could show me in a bad light. Would it be better to write a genial small piece to show, and tell the truth about my other stuff. A least I've proven I'm talented and not a phony, whilst I still have something bigger up my sleeve.

Any other ways of bringing it into conversation other than asking about her hobbies?

And another thing -- the old opener 'Do I look like a drugdealer?' -- is that successful, I could see potential in adapting that to 'Do I look like a writer?'

It could come off as bragging, but if you do it in a modest way, sure why not. The whole point about the other opener is to be funny... so that would lack ...
