right now my job involves no human interaction. I am going to take a minimum wage job, or even volunteer somewhere for free, just so I can interact with people. Although it would be nice if I could make some money, it's not a requirement. I just want to face my fears and deal with customers. also, it would be nice if it's part time so I can take care of other life commitments at the same time. what kind of job do you think I should apply for? I was thinking barista (the guy that takes your order at the coffee shop) because you have to face customers all day, and most of the customers are hot girls. but the problem is, I dont want to learn how to mix all the drinks, it's too boring. or maybe forever 21? but at those stores I think most of the time you are just placing the clothes on the hangers, you are not really dealing with people. what's a job that involves high social pressure? |

Sales. Although barista can be fun depending on the shop. Maybe not at Starbucks but at an off brand or one off place you can act more like a bartender than a barista, making up drinks on the spot, chatting up the customers and having fun. Just as long as the work gets done you won't get any complaints really. |

I did street canvassing when I was about 18. Basically I would have to stop individual people on the street and get them to sign up to sponsor a child in a third world country. They would have to allow me to write their credit card numbers down on a piece of paper right there on the treat. Its some trust you have to establish. It was also a great paying job, especially for that age. There we people well into there late 30's doing well for themselves off the commission. I was basically approaching both random women and men on the streets of NYC and getting them to stop to hear my sales pitch. And while i can imagine that it helped me a bit socially, I can't say that it did anything for the anxiety you feel before approaching. I had a motivation. A had a cloak, and a reason to approach. It made it easy. And it was actually my approaching skills I developed before the job that allowed me to excel beyond the competitors at the live performance interview. However, nothing prepared to approach actual women on the street other than actually approaching women. Many men in sales are still suffering from social anxiety. This game is about relying on your own intentions and your own skill and merit. Developing your own "personal" and social reasoning for approach. Not one given to you by a job or a mate. If you're in a big city, you may be able to find a similar gig. Just know that the only thing that will truly prepare you for approaching world, is going out there into the approaching world. |
